Best Areas in Abu Dhabi

Explore the best areas to live in Abu Dhabi—from beachfront homes to family villas. Find your ideal neighbourhood and real estate lifestyle today.

You can learn a lot about Abu Dhabi by looking at where people live. Not just in terms of architecture or amenities, but in how different neighbourhoods reflect the kind of lives people build here. For a city that’s grown from a small fishing settlement into a global capital in just a few decades, Abu Dhabi still holds onto something quieter, more deliberate, especially when compared to its bolder counterpart, Dubai.
Maybe you’ve come for work, family, or simply the ease of year-round sunshine – either way, where you choose to live will shape how you experience the city. Some areas lean into luxury, others prioritise space and community. A few manage to do both, elegantly, discreetly, and organically.
Below, we profile some of Abu Dhabi’s most distinctive residential areas, showcasing how life is lived across the capital.

Saadiyat Island

Fifteen years ago, Saadiyat was mostly sand. Today, it's where Abu Dhabi shows its more cultured, contemplative side. You’ll find the Louvre Abu Dhabi rising from the water like a mirage – its domed roof casting dappled light across museum halls – alongside protected beaches where turtles still return to nest.
Homes on Saadiyat feel spacious and light-filled, be it a beachfront apartment at Mamsha or a villa hidden away in Jawaher. It’s the kind of place where you might spot dolphins on your morning walk, then wander into a gallery or lecture at NYU Abu Dhabi in the afternoon.
Families love it here, one of the reasons being Cranleigh School, which offers a British curriculum and strong arts and sports programmes. But it’s not just about convenience – it’s about pace. Life on Saadiyat moves a little slower, in the best possible way.

Al Reem Island

Across a short bridge from downtown, Al Reem Island feels more vertical and fast-paced. Think tall towers with endless views, waterside cafés, and the kind of apartment buildings that attract young professionals, couples, and small families.
What Reem lacks in historical character, it makes up for in practicality. You can walk to shops, grab coffee by the canal, and still be at your desk downtown in minutes. Reem Central Park softens the high-rise skyline with its walking paths, playgrounds, and open spaces, while Sorbonne University lends the island an international crowd and academic feel.
Commuting on and off the island during rush hour can be frustrating. But for many, the easy access, modern buildings, and sense of independence outweigh the traffic.

Al Maryah Island

Originally planned as a financial centre, Al Maryah has gradually broadened its identity. Today, it’s a walkable district where glass offices stand beside five-star hotels, a world-class hospital, and some of the city’s most high-end residences.
It’s best known for The Galleria – part luxury shopping centre, part social space. You’ll find flagship stores, upscale dining, and in the cooler months, waterfront terraces that actually make you want to linger.
Everything here feels considered. The public spaces are clean and calm, the buildings spaced just enough to let in light and air.
Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi is one of the area’s biggest advantages. For families staying long-term, having one of the region’s top hospitals nearby offers peace of mind.
Al Maryah isn’t for everyone – it’s on the pricier side, and its polished feel can lean towards the corporate. But if you work nearby, or like the idea of living where you can walk everywhere without leaving the island, it’s hard to beat.

Al Raha Beach

Along the coastal stretch between the city centre and Yas Island, Al Raha Beach offers a slower pace without sacrificing connection. It’s the kind of place where people stay put, not just because of the views, but because life works here.
The area is divided into distinct communities like Al Bandar, Al Zeina, and Al Muneera. Each has its own feel, but they all share a walkable layout, access to private beaches, and a front-row seat to Abu Dhabi’s quieter waterfront. Residents often talk about the simple luxuries, walking to the local bakery, swimming after work, or catching up with neighbours over coffee.
You’ll find mostly mid- to high-end apartments and villas, many with direct beach access or marina views. It’s a favourite with families who want space but still appreciate good restaurants, quality schools, and quick access to the airport or city. Weekends tend to revolve around the shoreline – joggers at first light, paddle boarders at midday, families picnicking by sunset.
Al Raha Beach is well settled: a community that’s grown into itself.

Yas Island

Yas may be best known for Formula 1, theme parks, and glossy tourism campaigns – but beyond the headlines, it’s also become home to a growing number of families and professionals who want a lifestyle with more breathing room.
The residential pockets – like Yas Acres, Water’s Edge, and the newer villas near Yas Bay – feel like small, self-contained neighbourhoods. There are schools, clinics, parks, and places to eat, all stitched together by cycling paths and quiet roads. Weekends might include a trip to Yas Mall or lunch by the marina, but they’re just as likely to involve a walk by the mangroves or a football match at the local pitch.
Yes, there are roller coasters and race tracks nearby, but they rarely interrupt the pace of day-to-day life. If anything, they’re an integral part of it. On weekdays, life is practical – school runs, office commutes, supermarket stops. On weekends, the island opens up – it is a place where children can grow up with space to run, and where adults don’t have to choose between quiet and convenience.

Khalifa City

Khalifa City sits a little inland, away from the coastline and the clusters of towers, but that’s exactly its appeal. It’s where people go when they want space – larger villas, garden plots, quieter streets.
It doesn’t try to impress with a single landmark or a central attraction. Instead, its strength lies in the steady accumulation of what makes a place liveable, well-rated schools like Brighton College and GEMS American Academy, reliable healthcare, neighbourhood shops, and enough parks and playgrounds to keep weekends simple.
The community feels settled. People know their neighbours. Children cycle between homes. There’s a quiet rhythm to daily life that many expat-heavy areas never quite manage. And while Khalifa City used to feel a little removed from the rest of Abu Dhabi, improved roads – and the simple reality of urban sprawl – mean it’s no longer far from anything.
If you’re after a high-rise view or instant beach access, this isn’t the place. But if you’re looking for space to put down roots, Khalifa City still offers some of the best value in the capital.

Mohammed Bin Zayed City (MBZ)

MBZ started as an alternative to central Abu Dhabi and, over time, has become a diverse, well-rounded suburb.
Instead of sea views, residents enjoy something equally valuable, space. You’ll find wide roads, detached homes with back gardens, and plenty of parking. The area appeals to a real mix of residents – from young families just getting started to long-term expats who’ve traded downtown convenience for some calmness.
Its infrastructure has quietly caught up, Burjeel Medical City brings top-tier healthcare, and malls like Mazyad and Deerfields cover everything from groceries to family dining. Commutes into the city centre still take time, but for many, that trade-off is worth it.

Al Mushrif

Al Mushrif sits between the old and the new. Spend some time here and you will see why so many families choose to stay. Tree-lined streets, older villas with generous gardens, and a sense of belonging give the area a lived-in, homely feel. There are both long-term Emirati households and expat families who’ve been here long enough to remember when Al Mushrif was considered “out of town.”
It’s close to everything – ten minutes to the Corniche, even less to downtown – yet it avoids the busyness of more commercial districts. Schools like Brighton College and the American Community School give it strong educational roots, and weekend life often revolves around garden gatherings, park visits, or a quiet breakfast in one of the area’s unpretentious cafés.
Mushrif may not have the futuristic architecture or a marketing campaign behind it, but it offers a sense of continuity that other neighbourhoods don’t. In a city where change is constant, that counts for a lot.

Finding Your Place

No single area in Abu Dhabi offers everything to everyone. But across these coastal and suburban districts, you get a real sense of how people actually live here and make the place their own.
Relocating to Abu Dhabi – or simply rethinking where you live – means recognising the pace, space, and feeling that suits your life right now. Because in Abu Dhabi, home isn't just a location – it's the version of the city you choose to live in.

Best Malls in Abu Dhabi

Discover the best malls in Abu Dhabi for 2025—from luxury shopping and family fun to waterfront dining and everyday essentials—all in air-conditioned comfort.

For those who believe a mall is simply a food court with some shops attached, consider Abu Dhabi's grand retail palaces. Air-conditioned spaces where, even when temperatures outside hit 45°C, life unfolds in climate-controlled harmony. These aren't just places to shop. They're where Abu Dhabi's residents socialise, dine, entertain children, and even workout. All without stepping into the scorching heat that defines half the year.

Here's where to head for the best retail experiences in the UAE capital in 2025.

The Galleria Al Maryah Island

The Galleria has become Abu Dhabi's premier luxury shopping address, but in a way that feels refined rather than showy. Split between an original upmarket wing and a newer expanded section, this waterfront mall on Al Maryah Island attracts a cosmopolitan mix of well-heeled locals, business travellers, and tourists looking for retail therapy with a view.
The luxury section houses all the expected premium names – Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Dior – in a setting that feels noticeably calmer than other malls. Marble floors and comfortable seating areas create breathing room between boutiques, while security works discreetly to maintain the relaxed atmosphere, even during busy weekends.
A newer expansion has welcomed high-street brands, an impressive food hall, and family entertainment without compromising the mall's sophisticated character. The cinema features the UAE's first IMAX with laser technology, and the National Geographic Ultimate Explorer offers children something educational that still feels like play. The waterfront location makes all the difference. Through floor-to-ceiling windows, the skyline feels like part of the décor, especially at dusk when the city begins to glow. Come winter, the restaurant terraces become the most desirable dining spaces in town.
Connected directly to Abu Dhabi Global Market Square and several five-star hotels via air-conditioned walkways, The Galleria has become the default shopping stop for business visitors. Even the parking system feels considered, helping drivers find empty spaces rather than creating the usual congestion.

Yas Mall

Yas Mall is positioned centrally within Abu Dhabi’s entertainment district on Yas Island. Connected to Ferrari World and close to Warner Bros. World, it receives a steady stream of tourists and theme park visitors alongside local shoppers ready for retail therapy after roller coaster thrills.
Natural light from the glass window makes the space feel instantly welcoming. The central Town Square has everything from fashion shows to cultural performances throughout the year, giving the mall a sense of community beyond commerce. Fashion options cover all bases, from everyday brands to the largest Debenhams outside Britain. The Apple Store covers two floors and often runs workshops for aspiring creatives hoping to capture the perfect mall shot.
Dining goes well beyond the expected. The Cascade Dining section opens onto a waterfall terrace that stays full through the cooler months. Restaurant choices reflect the capital’s international mix. Families, meanwhile, get a better deal here than at most malls. Beyond the usual cinema, there’s a massive Toy Store with play areas and regular character appearances. Unexpectedly, the region’s largest ACE Hardware has become popular with teenagers and parents alike, thanks to DIY workshops – a surprising and welcome shift from mall norms.
An air-conditioned walkway connecting directly to Warner Bros. World makes this an easy stop for families doing the theme park circuit. Parents can browse in peace while tired children recover from the day’s excitement – a thoughtful and clever touch that neatly sums up Yas Mall’s approach to retail.

Marina Mall

Twenty years and still standing strong. Marina Mall’s distinctive circular design has become an Abu Dhabi landmark, while recent renovations have refreshed the interior without erasing its original character. Located at the tip of the Breakwater, it offers spectacular views across the Corniche – especially from the observation deck on its central tower.
The setting encourages visitors to pair shopping with sunset walks along Marina Promenade. Inside, the circular layout creates a natural flow, with shops mixing international brands with local boutiques, including several Emirati designers showcasing regional talent.
Dining options have improved considerably over the years. The mall offers more than standard food court fare, with several restaurants featuring outdoor terraces that take advantage of the waterfront location. During winter, they become some of the city’s most appealing spots for casual dining. Magic Planet has been upgraded to include rides and games for all ages, while the central court regularly hosts free weekend entertainment during holidays.
Its proximity to nearby attractions gives Marina Mall an edge. Visitors can easily walk to Heritage Village, Marina Breakwater Park, or Emirates Palace, making this mall feel genuinely tied into the city.

Abu Dhabi Mall

Sometimes the original still works best. Abu Dhabi Mall may not excel in dramatic architecture like newer shopping centres, but it continues to draw loyal customers thanks to its location and simplicity. Situated opposite the Beach Rotana Hotel in the Tourist Club Area, it’s easily accessible from most parts of the city.
The rectangular layout with clear sightlines means no one gets lost – a real bonus when time is tight. Its retail mix remains practical and consistent, with a massive Carrefour hypermarket flanked by familiar fashion, electronics, and homeware stores. The basement level is refreshingly utilitarian, with tailoring, key cutting, and phone repairs – a quiet reminder that malls can serve everyday needs.
The food court is always busy, for its variety and value. Local favourites like Lebanese Flower sit comfortably next to global chains, reflecting the city’s cultural mix. Long-term residents still recommend Abu Dhabi Mall when newcomers ask where to find the basics. It may not be flashy, but it delivers on convenience, choice, and value – things most people want.

Al Wahda Mall

Al Wahda Mall has grown through continuous expansion rather than drastic redesigns. Located in Abu Dhabi city, this complex has become one of the capital's most comprehensive shopping destinations, covering practically everything in its retail mix.
Fashion covers affordable to premium options, with particularly strong selections from Middle Eastern and South Asian brands. Homewares and electronics get equal attention, from luxury furniture to everyday tech. The Grand Atrium hosts exhibitions and cultural events throughout the year. During Ramadan and Eid, this space transforms into a lively marketplace, capturing the festive atmosphere of these important periods.
Family entertainment is of good value at Al Wahda. Adventure HQ lets children test outdoor equipment before parents buy it. Cinema tickets cost less than at premium malls but still provide comfortable, modern screens. More than anything, Al Wahda feels like a local mall in the best sense – a space where different cultures meet in shared routines, where shopping fits around life rather than the other way round.

The Future of Mall Life

Online shopping may have changed how people buy things, but it hasn’t replaced what makes a great mall tick the box: community, atmosphere, and experience. There’s something you can’t replicate in a checkout basket – catching up with friends over coffee, watching children explore play areas, or browsing without needing to click a button.
The smartest malls understand they're selling experiences as much as products. However, what becomes clear after visiting these spaces is how they reflect the capital's character. While neighbouring emirates may have flashier retail malls, Abu Dhabi's maintain a certain restraint that feels authentic to this thoughtful capital.
So next time you think of malls as simply places to shop, remember that in Abu Dhabi, they're where life quietly happens, especially when summer makes everywhere else impossible.

Best Banks in Abu Dhabi

Explore the best banks in Abu Dhabi for 2025—from top local and international options to digital platforms—tailored for expats, families, and professionals.

Although you'll recognise the sleek towers and modern branches of banks in Abu Dhabi, each one has its own approach to serving the city's international community. Many institutions excel with innovative digital services and multilingual support, though their account requirements and fee structures often differ from what you might be used to at home.
After spending time here, residents learn that choosing the right bank makes a massive difference to financial life in the UAE. This guide walks through the standout options in Abu Dhabi in 2025, looking at both local and international choices that serve different needs.

Top Local Banks

First Abu Dhabi Bank (FAB)

FAB is the largest bank in the UAE, formed when National Bank of Abu Dhabi merged with First Gulf Bank back in 2017. Size matters here – they've got cash machines everywhere and the most branches across the city.
Their mobile app has improved in recent years, customers can do everything without visiting a branch now. The English version works properly too, which wasn't always the case with UAE banking apps.
Opening an account is relatively straightforward, though the salary requirements can be steep for their better accounts. New customers need to show a salary certificate from their employer, and most premium accounts need a substantial monthly salary transfer.
FAB's credit cards are worth looking at, especially for frequent travellers. Their Etihad Guest cards earn airline miles faster than most competitors, and their cashback cards give decent returns on everyday spending.
Customer service experience can vary depending on which branch you visit. While their digital banking is excellent, fee structures aren't always clearly communicated upfront. Regular account monitoring is advisable, as is establishing a relationship with a specific bank representative who can help clarify any questions about your account. Many long-term customers find that once they understand the system, the banking experience becomes much smoother.

Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank (ADCB)

ADCB has built a reputation for being more customer-friendly than many local banks. Their Hayyak programme for newcomers helps users set up banking, phone, and even housing payments in one go – a genuine timesaver when just landing in the UAE.
Their TouchPoints loyalty programme is one of the better ones in Abu Dhabi banking. Customers earn points on everyday transactions that add up surprisingly quickly, and can be used for anything from shopping vouchers to bill payments.
The ActiveSaver account is popular with families trying to build up savings, offering decent interest rates if account holders follow certain conditions. Their mortgage options are also among the more competitive for residents looking to buy property in Abu Dhabi.
Where ADCB falls short is their branch experience. Despite nice facilities, customers often face long waits, especially at month-end. The good news is their digital banking is solid enough that branch visits are rarely necessary.

Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank (ADIB)

ADIB has grown into one of Abu Dhabi's banking success stories. Though guided by Islamic principles, customers find the day-to-day experience feels familiar and straightforward.
Their Ghina savings account offers profit rates (Sharia-compliant returns shared from the bank’s profits) that typically outperform conventional bank interest. They're also known for flexible personal financing through goods murabaha – a cost-plus-profit arrangement where the bank buys an item and sells it to the customer at a markup, different in structure from traditional loans but just as accessible in practice.
The bank's mobile app is surprisingly good, with an English interface that's clearer than many competitors. Customers also encounter shorter queues at branches compared to the bigger banks.
The main drawback is slightly fewer ATMs around the city, though this matters less now that most UAE banks offer free withdrawals from any ATM in the country.

International Banks

HSBC

HSBC has a long history in the Gulf and maintains a balance between local knowledge and international standards. For expats planning to move money between countries, their global presence is a significant advantage – customers can open accounts in multiple currencies and transfer between them much more easily than with local banks.
Their Premier account package waives most fees if customers maintain a substantial balance or have a high monthly salary going in. This threshold is quite high, but the international banking benefits can be worth it for higher earners, especially the ability to open accounts in new countries before even moving there.
Property financing is another strength, with mortgage rates for expats typically more competitive than local banks, particularly for homes in internationally-friendly areas like Saadiyat Island or Al Raha Beach.
HSBC's attention to documentation detail can be a double-edged sword. Their thorough approach means every 'i' must be dotted and every 't' crossed, which can be tiresome.

Citibank

Citibank keeps a smaller footprint in Abu Dhabi than some competitors, but they excel at serving American expats in particular. Their accounts make it easy to manage finances between the UAE and the US, with straightforward tax reporting features that anyone dealing with the IRS will appreciate.
Their Citigold service (for those with significant deposits) connects customers with relationship managers who typically understand international financial matters better than staff at local banks. They've also developed investment products that comply with both UAE and US regulations.
The mobile app ranks among the best available in Abu Dhabi, with features that sometimes arrive here years before local banks adopt them. Customers can deposit US cheques remotely, something even HSBC doesn't provide in the UAE.
The downsides include a limited branch network and ATM presence, plus higher minimum balance requirements than most local banks.

Digital Banking Options

YAP

YAP isn't a full bank but a digital banking platform that works with established UAE banks behind the scenes. It's been a game-changer for newcomers to Abu Dhabi who need basic banking functions without the hassle of typical account opening procedures.
Account holders can set up a YAP account entirely through their app, usually getting approved within a day or two. There's no minimum salary requirement, making it accessible to everyone from household staff to freelancers who might struggle with mainstream financial institutions.
The app offers instant spending notifications, categorised spending analysis, and the ability to create sub-accounts for saving towards specific goals. Their exchange rates for international transfers are also more transparent than most established banks.
The limitations? Users can't deposit cash directly, there's no chequebook (though this matters less in increasingly digital Abu Dhabi), and some government services still prefer payments from notable banking providers.

Neo

Neo entered the Abu Dhabi market more recently but has quickly gained users with their UAE-focused digital experience. Like YAP, they're not technically a bank but provide a banking interface backed by licensed financial institutions.
The best thing about Neo is their integration with local services – everything from ADDC utility payments to Mawaqif parking can be handled directly through the app.
There are no monthly fees or minimum balances, and their physical debit card works everywhere Visa is accepted. The foreign exchange rates also beat traditional banks by a significant margin.
The catch is that accounts have a maximum balance limit unless customers undergo additional verification, which might be too restrictive for some users.

Finding Your Financial Home

Banking in Abu Dhabi has improved so much in recent years, with more competition driving better customer service and digital options. The right choice depends largely on specific needs – a single professional making international transfers has very different requirements from a family buying property and settling in long-term.
Many long-term residents end up with accounts at multiple banks – perhaps a local bank for salary and day-to-day spending, plus an international option for investments or overseas connections. Digital banking apps make it increasingly easy to manage multiple accounts from one phone.
Whatever the choice, it's worth remembering that switching banks in the UAE is easier in the current climate. If a banking relationship isn't working out, exploring alternatives is worth the effort for financial peace of mind.

Best Coffee in Abu Dhabi

Explore the best coffee in Abu Dhabi—from traditional Arabic gahwa to cutting-edge specialty cafés redefining the city’s coffee culture with global beans and local flair.

The capital of UAE sits at an interesting crossroads of coffee cultures. Traditional Arabic coffee (gahwa) has been part of local hospitality for centuries – cardamom-spiced and served in tiny cups. Now this tradition lives alongside modern coffee approaches, with Abu Dhabi embracing both its heritage and new coffee trends.

Across Abu Dhabi, specialty cafés are rethinking what coffee can be – weighing, grinding, calibrating, and fine-tuning each cup. The best coffee places in Abu Dhabi now pay attention to these details that would have seemed ridiculous just a few decades back.
Here's where to find a genuinely good cup in the city.

Specialty Coffee Champions

%Arabica

The %Arabica at Al Bateen Marina might be the prettiest place in Abu Dhabi to drink coffee. Glass walls look straight out onto the water and yachts, making even a quick espresso feel a bit special.
They keep things simple here. No crazy syrup concoctions – just coffee done properly. Beans come from their own farms and partners they've worked with for years, so the quality stays consistent.
The flat white is exceptional – the milk is so perfectly textured that the little leaf design stays visible until the last sip. For people who take their coffee black, the pour-overs are worth the extra wait.
The space feels calm – concrete, wood and glass with nothing unnecessary. Baristas know their stuff without being snobby about it.

Slash

One could easily walk past Slash without noticing it was there. This tiny shop near Qasr Al Hosn doesn't bother with fancy decor. They just make seriously good coffee.
The beans change all the time, featuring roasters from places like Ukraine, New Zealand and South Korea. It's like a world tour of coffee without leaving Abu Dhabi.
Coffee-making here is treated like a science experiment by the owner. There's a real obsession with water quality, temperature, and getting the extraction just right. Even their standard filter coffee gets the kind of attention most places only give to their premium hand-brewed options.
The tiny space barely fits ten people, which turns waiting for coffee into an impromptu lesson about beans and brewing. The baristas take pride in what they're making, but they never make customers feel uneasy if they just want something that tastes good.

Bee Café

Bee sits on the ground floor of an apartment building in Al Khalidiyah, started by a local coffee fanatic who turned a hobby into a business. That passion shows in everything they do.
They have a house blend for milk drinks but also single-origin espressos that change regularly. What really sets them apart is how seriously they take alternative brewing methods. The AeroPress, siphon, and cold drip aren't just for show – they're everyday options made by people who know exactly what they're doing.
While most specialty shops talk endlessly about Ethiopian or Colombian beans, Bee makes a point of showcasing coffee from closer to home. Customers will find beans from Yemen, Oman, and Saudi Arabia alongside the usual suspects.
Their date cake with hints of cardamom pairs perfectly with a filter coffee, bringing together local flavours with modern coffee culture.

Middle Eastern Coffee Experiences

Al Mrzab

Al Mrzab in Al Bateen keeps old Arabic coffee traditions going while adding some clever modern touches.
They specialise in gahwa, made in traditional copper pots and served in those small cups without handles. The whole process starts with roasting green beans over flames, often right at the table. They grind the medium-roasted beans with cardamom and sometimes other spices like saffron.
The difference here is they actually care about the coffee itself. This careful sourcing of the beans from Yemen and Ethiopia create a beautiful balance between the coffee's naturalness and the aromatic spices, resulting in a more complex and satisfying cup.
The space honours tradition with authenticity and warmth. Guests can sit on floor cushions majlis-style, and there's a small display explaining coffee's history in Gulf culture for those who are curious.

Café Bateel

Bateel started selling fancy dates before they got into cafés, and that heritage shows in their approach to coffee. Their main café at The Galleria mixes traditional Gulf coffee culture with all the modern touches one would expect.
Their signature date coffee is genuinely interesting. They make traditional Arabic coffee but add a subtle sweetness with date syrup instead of sugar. The result tastes familiar but with complex caramel notes that connect to the region's farming history.
They do excellent regular espresso drinks too, using a blend of Ethiopian, Colombian and Indian beans. It's smooth enough to work well both as straight espresso and in milk drinks.
The date cookies that come with the coffee are worth the visit alone, and the same can be said about the more substantial dishes they serve, like the date-marinated chicken for those staying longer.

Unique Coffee Concepts

Library Café

Library Café in Al Raha isn't your typical bookshop coffee space. They care as much about what's in your cup as what's on their shelves.
The coffee comes from different international roasters that change regularly. The skilled team works with quality machines to get the best from their beans. Customers can get standard lattes and cappuccinos, but they also offer more interesting options like single-origin pour-overs.
The setup is perfect – comfortable chairs between bookshelves create natural reading spots, while bigger tables work for study groups or meetings. Someone clearly thought about the sound levels too – busy enough to have an atmosphere but not so loud that people can't concentrate.
The book selection is smart rather than massive, with well-chosen titles across different genres and languages. They regularly host book events and clubs, creating a community beyond just selling novels.

Sanderson's

Sanderson's at The Mall at World Trade Center takes a completely different approach to coffee. While most places focus on tradition, they're exploring how coffee fits into healthy living without becoming overwhelming or joyless.
Their menu includes coffees with functional additions like collagen, medicinal mushrooms, and adaptogens – ingredients popular in wellness circles for supporting skin, stress and immunity – alongside properly made espresso. It could be mistaken for a marketing ploy, but they understand how these elements work together without ruining the coffee itself.
The beans come from ethical sources with clear supply chains, roasted to bring out natural sweetness without harsh bitterness. They consider alternative milks – their house-made almond and oat milks are designed specifically to work with coffee rather than just being milk substitutes.
Their avocado toast with zaatar seeds has become well-known locally, and unlike many trendy dishes, it's as good as people say.

Abu Dhabi's Coffee Scene

After spending time in Abu Dhabi's coffee shops, it becomes clear how this simple drink brings people together – connecting old traditions with new trends, global influences with local tastes, and most importantly, creating spaces where people can talk to each other. In a fast-changing city where so much feels temporary, these coffee moments offer a chance to slow down, connect, and enjoy something made with genuine care.

The Disney Effect: Disneyland to Boost Property Prices on Yas Island

Disneyland is coming to Yas Island Abu Dhabi, sparking a real estate boom with rising demand, prices, and global investor interest.

There are theme parks, then there is Disney. Last week, Disney CEO Bob Iger unveiled plans for a historic first: Disneyland is coming to Abu Dhabi — more specifically, to Yas Island. While the park won’t open until 2032 or 2033, it is set to be “authentically Disney” and “distinctly Emirati”, hinting at a new kind of storytelling that pays homage to local culture.

Developed and funded by Miral — the state-backed powerhouse behind most of Yas Island’s flagships — Disneyland Abu Dhabi will be the first Disney theme park in the Middle East, and the first fully indoor Disney resort anywhere in the world. And while Mickey and friends are the headliners, there’s another narrative quietly unfolding: a real estate market poised for transformation.

From Entertainment to Investment — Why Yas Island?

Yas Island is both strategic and symbolic. Home to Ferrari World, Warner Bros. World, SeaWorld, and Yas Marina Circuit, the island is already primed for global entertainment at scale. But beyond the high-ticket thrills, it’s rapidly evolving into a fully integrated lifestyle destination with an increasingly compelling real estate narrative.
“Disneyland is one of the most recognisable and powerful global brands, and its arrival on Yas Island is all but guaranteed to drive significant economic impact,” says Leigh Borg, Executive Partner at Dubai Sotheby’s International Realty.
“The influx of tourism and the associated economic growth will invariably influence the property market. Increased demand for luxury accommodations, short-term rentals, and high-end residences is expected. In the short term, Yas Island will experience heightened investor interest — especially because the infrastructure is already very well-established. Over the medium to long term, this momentum will likely extend to the broader Abu Dhabi real estate market, reinforcing the city's position as a global hub for luxury living.”
Beyond its attractions, Yas Island is quickly maturing into a place where people want to live and settle, rather than just visit. Borg says, “White-sand beaches, excellent healthcare and top-tier schools add to the appeal, particularly for families focused on long-term living. Disney’s arrival and the confidence it brings will only accelerate this, priming Abu Dhabi to enter a rapid growth phase.”
Yas Island’s property market hasn’t waited for Disney to begin its ascent.
In 2024, the wider Abu Dhabi real estate market grew by a staggering 125% year-on-year, and Yas has emerged as one of its most attractive sub-markets. In Q1 2025 alone, luxury apartment prices on Yas rose by 2.5% per square foot compared to Q4 2024, outpacing Saadiyat. Villas on Yas have seen similar momentum, with the average sale price now sitting at AED 4.68 million.
“In the short term, apartments will benefit the most with this announcement,” says Borg. “In the medium-long term, we expect to see dramatic appreciation across all segments of Abu Dhabi's property market. Yas Acres, an off-plan waterfront villa development by Aldar, is already a standout, alongside Yas Riva.”
Launched last year, Yas Riva (a collection of 151 canalfront villas) sold out within 24 hours, demonstrating soaring demand. “This rate of absorption shows how quickly sentiment can move in a market when the fundamentals are right. Supply is low, demand is high, and the lifestyle infrastructure is long established.”
“One of the strongest factors in Abu Dhabi's growth is the comparatively limited amount of private development that takes place, with Aldar and Modon enjoying a dominant market share. Backed by the government, these developers are incredibly well-trusted and maintain very high standards, creating deep residual value in the real estate that comes to the market.”

Rental Yields and the Rise of Branded Residences

Buyers are already taking notice of the rental potential on Yas Island. Q1 2025 data shows that gross rental yields on Yas now average around 7% for apartments and 5.5% for villas, placing it among the top-performing areas in Abu Dhabi’s luxury segment.
Signalling another new chapter on Yas, Aldar and Hilton announced the very first branded residences on the island on May 12: the legendary Waldorf Astoria. “If Abu Dhabi follows the pattern we’ve seen in Dubai, we can expect increased demand for branded residences on Yas Island — particularly among buyers seeking service-led living and long-term value. Waldorf Astoria is just the start. For branded homes especially, demand will always outpace supply.”

Looking Ahead: Capital Appreciation and Investor Timing

For those considering entering the market on Yas Island, timing is key. “While the opening of Disneyland is still years away, the opportunity for strategic property investment has already begun,” says Borg. “Real estate responds to momentum, and this announcement has injected Yas Island with a level of global attention and forward-looking value that is rare in today’s market.”
Abu Dhabi is currently targeting over 24 million annual visitors by 2030. As it does, the relationship between leisure-driven growth and residential opportunity is becoming clearer—and increasingly profitable. For investors looking ahead, the formula is already in play: international appeal, infrastructure certainty, and lifestyle credibility backed by globally recognised names.
Borg added: “For investors, this is not simply about yield, it’s about positioning. Acquiring property now, while development is still in its early stages, means entering the market before the inevitable price spike, and benefiting from the sustained interest that Disney and Yas Island will command for decades to come. My advice to clients is to act early and not wait for the ribbon cutting.”{{ include_custom_fonts({"__BentonSans_2d01b9":["Light","Regular"],"FreightBig":["Regular"]}) }}

Famous Buildings In Abu Dhabi

Explore the most famous buildings in Abu Dhabi—from iconic mosques and leaning towers to cutting-edge museums and sustainable cityscapes.

Abu Dhabi wasn’t always a place for architectural statements. Until the 1970s oil boom, the settlement was modest — fishing boats, trading dhows, and simple structures built for extreme heat.
Today, the city has assembled one of the Middle East’s most thoughtful collections of contemporary architecture. These aren’t just tall towers (though it has those too). The standout buildings make the most of their surroundings — capturing light, creating shade, reflecting water.
The next few years will be very significant. Already home to the Louvre Abu Dhabi, Saadiyat Island is now seeing long-awaited progress on the Guggenheim and Zayed National Museum — each responding in its own way to the island’s distinctive setting as they take shape in 2025.

Sacred Geometry

No building embodies Abu Dhabi’s architectural identity more than Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque. Completed in 2007 after a decade of construction, it represents the UAE’s largest mosque and one of its most profound cultural statements.
The mosque’s statistics alone command attention — 82 domes, space for 41,000 worshippers, 1,096 exterior columns, and the world’s largest hand-knotted carpet. Yet numbers don’t quite capture what makes this structure extraordinary.
What distinguishes the mosque is how it complements Islamic architecture. Its design draws from Moroccan, Ottoman, Fatimid, and Mamluk influences, and the result feels unified rather than fragmented. The prayer hall’s 96 marble-clad columns, inlaid with mother-of-pearl, support domes whose internal geometries create a mesmerising play of light and shadow.
When viewed at dusk, with reflective pools doubling every column and dome in perfect symmetry, the mosque becomes almost metaphysical. This liminal quality captures something essential about Abu Dhabi itself — a city that honours its past while constantly reinventing its future.

The Impossible Circle

Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque represents Abu Dhabi’s spiritual aspirations, but the Aldar Headquarters convey its technological ambition. Completed in 2010 by MZ Architects, this 110-metre-tall disc is the Middle East’s first circular building, along the Al Raha coastline.
The building’s striking form wasn’t chosen just for visual impact. The circle carries deep symbolic value in both Islamic geometry and universal mathematics. What appears at first glance as a simple shape reveals remarkable complexity upon closer look.
Creating a perfect circle at this scale required diagrid technology — a diagonal grid of steel that eliminates the need for internal columns. The result is interior spaces with endless views and a flexible layout. Despite having 23 floors, the headquarters has a floor area equivalent to a 40-storey tower.
Perhaps most impressive is how the building responds to its environment. Its glass façades are oriented to capture both sunrise and sunset, while the curved exterior functions as a natural wind deflector, reducing the impact of desert storms. The structure achieved LEED Silver certification through its use of recyclable materials and intelligent climate control systems.
At night, Aldar Headquarters takes on an almost otherworldly quality — a building that seems simultaneously impossible and inevitable, much like Abu Dhabi’s rapid transformation itself.

Rain of Light

Few buildings have stirred as much anticipation as Jean Nouvel’s Louvre Abu Dhabi. After years of delays and speculation, its 2017 opening marked a watershed moment — the first outpost of the famed French museum beyond Paris, and a bold statement of the emirate’s cultural ambitions.
The museum’s defining feature — a 180-metre wide, seemingly floating dome appears deceptively simple from a distance. Only with a closer look does its intricacy unfold, eight layers of interlocking geometric patterns creating 7,850 ‘stars’ of varying sizes. As sunlight filters through these apertures, it creates what Nouvel calls “a rain of light”, transforming the museum’s interior spaces throughout the day.
While the dome creates aesthetic effects, it also has functional purposes. The layered perforations reduce solar gain, maintaining natural light, creating a microclimate beneath that’s several degrees cooler than surrounding areas. The structure’s weight — an astonishing 7,500 tonnes, heavier than the Eiffel Tower — appears to rise above a collection of 55 white cubic buildings arranged like a traditional Arab medina.

The City’s Vertical Statement

The Etihad Towers show that when Abu Dhabi builds tall, it does so with intent. Completed in 2011, this cluster of five towers has become the signature of the Corniche waterfront.
Instead of identical heights, the towers rise in sequence, from 54 to 74 floors. The glass shifts too, its blue tint deepening toward the top, matching the Gulf waters.
Inside, it’s practically a small city: offices, flats, hotel rooms, designer boutiques, and destination dining. Tourists head straight for the Observation Deck at 300 (named for its height in metres), where the view showcases Abu Dhabi’s careful planning.
The towers are at their best after dark, making them a fixture of Abu Dhabi’s evening waterfront. Their screen time in “Fast & Furious 7” sealed their pop culture status, even if the film’s car-jumping-between-building stunt stretched architectural credibility.

The Presidential Palace

Qasr Al Watan opened to visitors in 2019, but most locals will tell you it takes at least two trips to properly see it. Rather than relying on spectacle, this working presidential palace reflects a deep understanding of Arabic design and symbolism. The craftsmen who created its intricate mosaics and domed ceilings clearly understood what they were honouring.
Domes and arches in white granite and limestone suggest tradition without showiness. It’s what happens inside that leaves visitors speechless. A 60-metre dome stretches overhead while walls display thousands of geometric patterns — no two exactly alike, all following precise mathematical rules.
Light changes everything in this building. Enormous chandeliers scatter patterns across the marble. The windows aren’t randomly placed — they capture sunlight at precise moments throughout the day. After sunset, the exterior becomes a light show — a regular attraction, typically scheduled in the early evening, that tells the story of the UAE’s past, present, and future.
Most government headquarters keep the public at arm’s length. But Qasr Al Watan splits its time between official business and cultural exploration. It’s a surprising twist for a presidential palace — and somehow, perfectly Abu Dhabi.

The Sustainable Vision

Masdar City began with grand promises. When Foster + Partners unveiled their plans in 2006 for a zero-carbon, zero-waste city in the desert, many called it visionary. Others called it impossible. Yet what stands today remains fascinating.
The completed sections draw cleverly from regional building wisdom. Streets run narrow and buildings cluster close, creating natural shade and channelling what breeze exists. Updated mashrabiya screens filter brutal sunlight. The temperature drops noticeably as you enter the development.
The Masdar Institute remains the project’s centrepiece, its warm terracotta walls surrounding a shaded courtyard. A prominent windcatcher tower pulls hot air upward – the same technology that cooled Gulf homes for centuries, now scaled up with modern engineering.
Though the full vision may never materialise exactly as planned, Masdar has proven surprisingly influential. As Abu Dhabi faces increasingly extreme temperatures, these old-meets-new cooling strategies have found their way into mainstream projects across the emirate.

Capital Gate

If architectural ambition can be measured in degrees, then Capital Gate’s 18-degree westward incline places it among Abu Dhabi’s most audacious structures. Certified by Guinness World Records as the “world’s furthest leaning man-made tower,” this 35-storey building appears to defy gravity.
Completed in 2011, the tower looks almost impossibly precarious. The engineering behind it is clever— the core was built slanting in the opposite direction, then gradually straightened as each floor added weight. The result appears to defy physics while actually working with it.
A diamond-patterned steel exoskeleton wraps the exterior, handling the complex stresses that come with an 18-degree tilt. This isn’t just structural necessity –the pattern creates a distinctive façade that changes as you move around it.
While other cities in the region compete for straight-up height records, Abu Dhabi chose to lean into something more intriguing. Capital Gate represents the city’s architectural personality perfectly — technically ambitious, visually distinctive, and just a bit unorthodox.

The Future

Abu Dhabi already has impressive buildings across its skyline, but what’s taking shape on Saadiyat Island is something else entirely. Construction cranes signal the city’s biggest architectural gamble yet — a cultural district expected to open in phases, with key institutions slated for completion by late 2025. When finished, the area will pack more star-architect-designed museums into one location than almost anywhere else on earth.
The Guggenheim Abu Dhabi has been on and off for years, but Frank Gehry’s design is now visibly rising from the sand. It’s expected to be the largest Guggenheim in the world — no small feat considering the number of museums across the globe. Rather than mimicking Bilbao’s shiny waves, Gehry has designed something that makes sense in the desert. The galleries will eventually cover 42,000 square metres, focused primarily on contemporary art from the surrounding regions.
Just next door, Foster + Partners’ Zayed National Museum makes its own statement with five towering steel ‘feathers’ that slice into the sky. These aren’t just for show. They’re cleverly designed to pull hot air upward and cool the building naturally. The design reflects falconry, a passion of the UAE’s founding father. In the evening, these illuminated spires will be visible for kilometres around.
The Natural History Museum rounds out the trio with a completely different approach. Instead of sharp angles and metal, Mecanoo’s design flows like water-carved stone. Its centrepiece will be a massive dinosaur fossil nicknamed ‘Stan’, displayed beneath an atrium.
Though visually distinct, each project aims to create something that wouldn’t make sense anywhere else.

Reflections on a City’s Architectural Identity

Architecture tells you what a city values. In Abu Dhabi's case, that's neither blind futurism nor stubborn nostalgia, but something more nuanced.
The city has developed its own architectural language over the past two decades — one that respects tradition without being captive to it. The best buildings here understand where they stand, both literally and culturally.
As the next phase of development takes shape, Abu Dhabi stands between its architectural legacy and the opportunities ahead. The foundations are in place and it remains to be seen how they’ll shape into existence what comes next in the capital.

Salt, Sand and Stillness: The Best Beaches in Abu Dhabi

Discover Abu Dhabi’s best beaches — from wild Saadiyat shores to vibrant Yas Beach, perfect for sun, sea, and unforgettable coastal escapes.

There are few better ways to embrace the UAE’s year-round sun than in the topaz waters of Abu Dhabi’s coast. Here are five of the city’s best beaches.

Abu Dhabi is a city edged by salt and sand. Beyond the skyline and the slow pull of the desert, its coastline reveals another side of the capital — one shaped by sea breeze, open sky, and long horizons. Some of the best beaches in the UAE, and indeed the wider Middle East, are found here (Saadiyat in particular has earned global acclaim). Some stretches feel almost untouched, made for walking with only the tide for company, while others hum with a more convivial energy — framed by beach clubs, watersports, and world-class hospitality venues.
Whether you’re here for a sunrise swim, a sundown spritz, or a barefoot afternoon with a flask and a book, these are the beaches in Abu Dhabi.

Saadiyat Beach

Saadiyat Beach is one of Abu Dhabi’s most captivating. Wide and wild, this public beach has powder-soft sands and luminous clear waters, home to bottlenose dolphins and sea turtles (though sightings are rare). Along the shore, you’ll find loungers, shaded daybeds and a number of upscale beach clubs, including Saadiyat Beach Club and Kai Beach. Large swathes of the beach however remain undeveloped and open, making it one of the few places in the city where you can walk for hours uninterrupted.
In the cooler months, a gentle swell sometimes rolls in on Saadiyat — just enough to tempt longboarders and beginner surfers. It’s not dramatic, but it’s real, and all the more special for its rarity in the UAE. Even rarer still, Saadiyat Beach forms part of a protected ecosystem, with critically-endangered Hawksbill sea turtles nesting on the sands under the protection of the Hawksbill Turtle Conservation Programme. Signs along the path remind visitors of their presence, and parts of the beach may be roped off during nesting season to avoid disturbance.
A unique draw of Saadiyat Beach is its proximity to landmark cultural institutions like Louvre Abu Dhabi, Manarat Al Saadiyat, and the upcoming Guggenheim Abu Dhabi, which form the heart of the city’s cultural district. It’s no surprise that this beach has won the World Travel Award’s ‘Middle East's Leading Beach Destination’ for 11 consecutive years.

Hudayriyat Beach

Hudayriyat Island may be just minutes from downtown Abu Dhabi, but it feels a world apart. Easily accessible via bridge from Al Bateen, this is one of the city’s best escapes for active, all-ages beach days. The beach itself is broad and uncrowded — ideal for swimming or paddleboarding along a pristine stretch of open sea. What sets Hudayriyat Beach apart though, is its full-throttle embrace of outdoor, active living. Beyond the sand, cycling tracks loop for kilometres around the shore, complete with a dedicated velodrome and bike park. Football pitches, basketball courts and climbing walls add to the family-friendly, high-energy atmosphere on this Abu Dhabi island, especially on weekends.
For those who prefer to lounge, Hudayriyat Beach has a more laid-back side, with beachfront cafés, shaded picnic areas and a palm-lined promenade. Day bleeds into night at Bab Al Nojoum — a boutique glamping spot with beach tents, airstream trailers and firepits. Dining is relaxed and generous, with plenty of dishes to sink into with sandy feet and salty hair, from loaded fries and stacked burgers at MLT to ice-cold lemonade at Mashakeek & Steak.

Al Bateen Beach

Across the water from Hudayriyat, Al Bateen Beach brings a slower, more local feel to Abu Dhabi’s coastline. With its calm waters and golden sands, it’s a favourite among early-morning walkers and families looking for a relaxed outdoor space to spend the day. Al Bateen has a rare kind of simplicity — no big attractions, no frills — just open sea and space to breathe. While there are fewer restaurants than on Hudayriat, it’s exactly the kind of place to fill up a flask, unfurl a blanket and pack a hearty picnic.
For the ladies: the eastern end of Al Bateen is where to go for a women’s-only beach day, with private access and lifeguard supervision.
This Abu Dhabi beach was awarded the coveted Blue Flag by the Emirates Wildlife Authority, promising clean waters and ecologically sustainable practices. Be sure to stay for the sunset — the view across to Hudayriyat Bridge is especially beautiful at dusk.

Al Mirfa Beach

Al Mirfa Beach is one of Abu Dhabi’s best-kept secrets. Unlike the more manicured beaches closer to the capital, this is a wilder, windier stretch of sea — a favourite for kitesurfers, seasoned campers and anyone looking to trade crowds for open sky. It is approximately 90 minutes from downtown Abu Dhabi, and it’s absolutely worth the drive.
The energy here is low-key and nature-led. There are shaded picnic spots, barbecue areas and basic facilities, but the main draw is its open space, which offers the kind of breezy solitude you won’t find elsewhere in the emirate. Al Mirfa beach is also home to the annual Al Mirfa Watersports Festival — a community-driven winter event with sailing, wakeboarding, surf-ski kayaking, and traditional dhow races.
While there are a few small shops and restaurants nearby, most visitors come packed and prepared to spend the day (and sometimes the night). It’s the sort of place to bring your own grill, pitch a beach tent, and watch the tide shift under uninterrupted desert sky.

Yas Beach

Yas Island is Abu Dhabi’s epicentre of entertainment, and Yas Beach is no exception. This is where the city’s sunseekers come for ice-cold Aperol spritz, live DJ sets and beachfront brunches that slip easily into the night. Cabanas, loungers and low tables spill across soft sands, with a sublime stretch of sea just steps away.
It isn’t all partying on Yas, though. For those who want more than sun and social, the beach has an abundance of outdoor activities, including padel courts, jetskiing and paddleboarding. Just beyond the beachfront, the surrounding mangroves offer a peaceful contrast — best explored by kayak as the sun sinks and the tide rolls in.
Yas Beach is just minutes from some of Abu Dhabi’s best attractions, including Ferrari World, SeaWorld and Yas Waterworld.

There are few better ways to embrace the UAE’s year-round sun than in the topaz waters of Abu Dhabi’s coast. Here are five of the city’s best beaches.

Abu Dhabi’s Best Water and Adventure Parks

Experience the thrill of Yas Island and beyond with Abu Dhabi’s top adventure parks — from record-breaking rides to wild desert escapes.

Adrenaline meets imagination in these six bold Abu Dhabi adventure parks.
Abu Dhabi may be best known for its skyline, red-sand deserts and quiet sense of luxury, but just beneath the polished surface is a city wired for adventure. Nowhere is this spirit more concentrated than on Yas Island — home to the world’s fastest rollercoaster, the tallest indoor climbing wall, and an ethically reimagined SeaWorld dedicated to rare marine life and ecological storytelling. Adventure takes a wilder turn at the foot of Jebel Hafeet (Abu Dhabi’s tallest mountain), where a whitewater course cuts through desert rocks.
Whether diving for pearls at Yas Waterworld or flying through a vertical wind tunnel at CLYMB, here are six unforgettable adventures in Abu Dhabi.

Yas Waterworld

If there’s a theme park that captures the spirit of Emirati adventure, it’s Yas Waterworld. Inspired by the region’s long tradition of pearl diving (indeed, that which birthed the UAE economy), this sprawling aqua park blends entertainment with cultural storytelling. There are over 40 rides, slides and attractions, including the Dawwama – the world’s largest six-person tornado water coaster, and the Bandit Bomber, a suspended rollercoaster that sprays jets of water as you glide through mountains overhead.
Those who came for the real adrenaline can head straight for the vertiginous Jebel Drop — a near-vertical slide that delivers pure free-fall. True to local culture, Yas Waterworld has an enriching pearl diving experience, where guests can dive for real oysters in a recreation of a traditional Emirati lagoon, keeping the pearl they find as a souvenir.
With wave pools, lazy rivers and plenty of shaded cabanas, this Abu Dhabi waterpark balances high-octane thrills with laid-back, water-soaked lounging. Barefoot dining spots keep things casual — no need to change before grabbing a bite between slides.

SeaWorld Abu Dhabi

The new SeaWorld Abu Dhabi isn’t your typical marine park. As the first SeaWorld outside North America — and crucially, the first without orcas — this Abu Dhabi outpost signals a shift from spectacle to substance. Built in partnership with Yas SeaWorld Research & Rescue, it houses one of the region’s largest and most advanced marine life facilities, with its mission centred on animal welfare, rehabilitation and long-term ecological research.
Across its eight realms — from the icy poles to the leafy tropics — the park is home to more than 100,000 marine animals, from rays and sharks to puffins, sea turtles, and dolphins. Thoughtfully designed enclosures mimic natural habitats, and many areas are staffed with educators who share insights into marine biodiversity and the environmental challenges our oceans face today.
There’s still plenty of fun, with family-friendly rides, a soaring vertical coaster, and hands-on touch pools. SeaWorld Abu Dhabi is equal parts thrill and thoughtfulness — an ambitious, ethically reimagined park with purpose at its core.

Ferrari World Abu Dhabi

A flagship on Yas Island, Ferrari World is not for the faint-hearted. Set beneath a spectacular crimson roof modelled after a Ferrari GT, this Abu Dhabi adventure park is home to the world’s fastest rollercoaster: the Formula Rossa, which launches from 0 to 240 km/h in under five seconds. More than just a playground for fast-car devotees, the park also features a range of interactive exhibits and nostalgic nods to Italian racing culture — from F1 simulators and a scaled-down Ferrari factory to an elegant collection of vintage cars. There’s even an F1 driving school for kids, complete with mini Ferraris and tiny track routes.
Dining isn’t an afterthought at Ferrari World (though you might want to eat after Formula Rossa). The award-winning Mamma Rossella trattoria serves one of the city’s best Neapolitan pizzas, while Il Podio — cleverly modelled after the actual staff refectory at Ferrari’s Maranello factory — offers Arabic, Indian and Western cuisine.

Warner Bros World Abu Dhabi

Warner Bros World brings a surreal blend of nostalgia and theatre to Yas Island. Spread across six ‘lands’, from the shadowy alleys of Gotham City to the prehistoric Bedrock, this Abu Dhabi theme park is about world-building as much as it’s about entertainment. The rides range from gentle family coasters to dark, high-speed adventures, such as the thunderous Batman: Knight Flight. Expect to bump into the likes of Batman, Scooby-Doo and the Looney Tunes crew as you make your way from one attraction to the next.
Warner Bros World is especially well-suited for families with younger kids — though DC fans and cartoon loyalists won’t feel out of place either. Even the dining is in character, with diners styled like Big Belly Burger and Fred Flintstone’s rocky café. As the world’s second-largest fully indoor theme park, it’s a welcome retreat from the region’s summer heat.

CLYMB Yas Island

Part extreme sports hub, part architectural statement, CLYMB is a vertical playground with two Guinness World Records to its name. This Yas Island indoor park is home to both the world’s tallest indoor climbing wall (a dizzying 43 metres), and the world’s widest indoor skydiving chamber, spanning 32 feet. The climbing wall, known as The SUMMYT, has colour-coded routes for all levels, whether you’re a curious first-timer or a pro climber who’s as comfortable on the belay as on solid ground. Next door, the skydiving chamber simulates free fall in a roaring vertical wind tunnel – no plane required. It’s intense, exhilarating, and surprisingly beginner-friendly (even for kids).

Al Ain Adventure (Jebel Hafeet Mountain Park)

At the foot of Jebel Hafeet, Abu Dhabi’s tallest mountain, lies one of the city’s best-kept secrets. Formerly known as Wadi Adventure, Al Ain Adventure is a whitewater oasis that trades Yas Island polish for raw, outdoor energy. Surrounded by desert and rock, it feels almost improbable — a full-scale rafting and surfing park tucked into the foothills.
The centrepiece is a custom-built whitewater channel (the first of its kind in the region), where visitors can raft or kayak through engineered rapids that twist and churn like organic streams. There’s also a surf pool with a controlled 3.3m break, a high ropes course, and a climbing wall that backs onto the rugged mountain face.
Nearby, a more leisurely and historically enriching adventure awaits in Jebel Hafeet Desert Park, with camel treks and rocky hiking trails. This outdoor park is also home to the ancient Jebel Hafeet Tombs — beehive-like stone structures that date back 5,000 years and mark the beginning of the Bronze Age in the UAE.{{ include_custom_fonts({"__BentonSans_2d01b9":["Light","Regular"],"FreightBig":["Regular"]}) }}

For those who want more than a room key, here are six of Abu Dhabi’s most compelling escapes.

Abu Dhabi resists a single narrative. Ancient and ambitious, the capital is a place where desert stillness and urban splendour exist side by side — and its hotels mirror that balance. From Bedouin-inspired escapes deep in the Empty Quarter to imposing palaces along the coast, each retreat offers something of its own. Whether you’re visiting for a business trip or a soul-searching break in the flame-red sands, here are six of the best hotels in Abu Dhabi.

Qasr Al Sarab Desert Resort by Anantara

To experience Abu Dhabi at its most soulful and cinematic, Qasr Al Sarab delivers in every sense. Nestled in the golden dunes of the Empty Quarter — the world’s largest sand desert — this landmark resort was commissioned directly by the royal family, and no detail was spared in its craftsmanship. Blending Bedouin tradition with barefoot luxury, the resort is an invitation to a slower, older UAE: camel rides through the dunes, oud-scented hammams, fire-cooked dinners beneath the open night sky.
Rooms and suites are spacious, with warm desert tones and carved wood details, while larger families can opt for a grand villa complete with a private pool and sweeping desert views. Dining at Qasr Al Sarab spans global and regional flavours, but a standout is Al Falaj — a Levantine-style al fresco experience set in the open dunes (don’t be surprised if one of the resort’s camels rests just beyond your table).
This Abu Dhabi retreat invites total immersion into landscape, silence, and story.

Four Seasons Hotel Abu Dhabi, Al Maryah Island

Four Seasons Al Maryah beautifully captures Abu Dhabi’s newer, more cosmopolitan side. Spanning 34 storeys, this five-star hotel is connected directly to The Galleria — the city’s most premier mall — and has fast become favoured among high-flying business people, dignitaries and jet-setting gourmands. The rooms are elegant and understated, with floor-to-ceiling windows, marble bathrooms, and calm interiors by Tihany Design.
Dinner is a highlight at Four Seasons Al Maryah: Café Milano, the UAE outpost of Washington D.C.’s famed power lunch spot, delivers a sharp Roman menu with waterfront views, while Chicago-style Butcher & Still serves up one of Abu Dhabi’s best steaks in a moody, prohibition-era setting. Wellness is just as considered, with a traditional spa, an 8th-floor pool deck and tailored treatments that go far beyond the usual, such as Bellabaci therapy.
For those seeking a permanent foothold in the capital’s financial district, Four Seasons Al Maryah has an extraordinary portfolio of private branded residences with designer interiors and world-class lifestyle services.

W Abu Dhabi Yas Island

Bold and playful, W Abu Dhabi on Yas Island brings high energy and high design to the edge of the Yas Marina Circuit. It’s the only hotel in the world built directly over a Formula 1 track, and it has become the go-to base during race season, drawing everyone from global headliners to trackside VIPs. With its futuristic architecture and creative interiors, the hotel is imbued with a year-round sense of occasion, not just during the Grand Prix. It’s also pet-friendly, so four-legged companions are welcome too.
Guest rooms are sleek and modern, with full-height windows framing views of the circuit or marina. Dining here is ingredient-forward and international, whether it’s elevated Indian street food at Garage or creative small plates at W Lounge. On the rooftop, the lively WET Deck is a destination in itself, with live DJs, inventive cocktails and private cabanas. When it’s time to reset, the two-storey AWAY Spa and fitness centre brings a welcome balance of calm and restoration.
For travellers who want luxury with a bit more fun and adrenaline, this is the one to book.

Emirates Palace Mandarin Oriental

If Abu Dhabi’s hotel scene had a crown, this would be it. Set on the edge of a topaz stretch of sea, Emirates Palace Mandarin Oriental is where beachfront escape meets royal palace. A testament to its calibre, the penthouse has six Rulers’ Suites reserved exclusively for dignitaries and royalty. As might be expected, rooms here are among the city’s most refined, with gold and marble finishes and Arabic motifs. Most open onto balconies with views across the beach or lush gardens.
With a dozen restaurants on site, dining is central to the experience at Emirates Palace. Talea by Antonio Guida and Hakkasan both hold Michelin stars, while Strawfire by Ross Shonhan serves authentic Japanese Warayaki cuisine (cooking over straw fire flames) in a romantic, dim-lit dining space. For rejuvenation, the multi award-winning Mandarin Oriental spa is vast and deeply atmospheric, with cavernous hammams and domed treatment rooms.
This regal Abu Dhabi hotel maintains a rare sense of calm, with beautifully manicured gardens and water features throughout. It’s also family-friendly — little ones can explore the imaginative new ‘Kids Palace’ while parents unwind beside the pool.

Andaz Capital Gate Abu Dhabi

Known as the ‘leaning tower of Abu Dhabi’, Andaz Capital Gate is one of the UAE’s most architecturally striking hotels. This bold, gravity-defying landmark tilts 18 degrees westward and holds the Guinness World Record for the world’s furthest man-made leaning building. Inside, gallery-like interiors celebrate Islamic and Emirati art in contemporary form, with ornate wooden details, colourful calligraphy, and a permanent café-gallery space on the ground floor (165 Below) spotlighting local artists.
Rooms and suites are pared-back with organic textures, bright pops of colour, and calm coastline views. Dining in Andaz Capital Gate is led by the Parisian-themed Cyan Brasserie, while Rayana Latin Tapas Bar is the spot for a livelier evening dinner with authentic Spanish tapas, music and cocktails.
With its dramatic architectural lines and boutique sensibility, Andaz Capital Gate is ideal for travellers seeking something a little off-centre — in the best possible way. A convenient base for a business trip, the hotel is 15 minutes from the airport and is adjacent to the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre.

Al Wathba Desert Resort & Spa

Al Wathba is an idyllic desert escape that isn’t quite as far-flung as Qasr Al Sarab (just 45 minutes from the city). Modelled on a traditional Arabian village, this boutique hotel has 103 low-rise rooms, suites and villas spread across palm-lined courtyards and sandstone alleys. The setting is deliberately pared back — earthy and elegant with flickering lanterns, patterned tiles and private terraces that open directly onto the desert.
The pace here is slow, centred heavily around cultural and personal enrichment. Guests can go horseback riding across the nearby sabkha flats, take a guided sunrise hike through the dunes, or simply spend the afternoon soaking up the golden desert sun in the resort’s infinity pool. The Saray Spa is the soul of Al Wathba. Spanning 2,200 square metres, this otherworldly retreat draws inspiration from ancient caravanserais (rest stops on the Silk Road) and relies on regional practices and rituals, with Dead Sea mud, oud oils, and a dramatic snow cave for contrast therapy.
Dining is spread across several venues: pan-Arabic cuisine at Bait Al Hanine, woodfired Italian at Terra Secca, and sunset drinks with mezze at the rooftop bar. Al Wathba may be a more intimate setting than its more famous counterpart in the Empty Quarter, but it offers something just as special — stillness, space, and the sense that the desert truly begins at your doorstep.
