<h2>Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix (December)</h2>
F1's season finale returns each December, and whilst championships are often decided before cars reach Abu Dhabi, the event has delivered some of motorsport's most talked-about moments. Vettel's 2010 title win came through a four-way battle that went down to the final laps. Verstappen's 2021 championship victory on the last lap remains one of the sport's most debated finishes.
The 2025 edition takes place 4-7 December, bringing the usual mix of racing and entertainment that's defined the event since 2009. This year's concert roster features Benson Boone opening Thursday night, Post Malone and Elyanna performing Friday, Metallica taking Saturday, and Katy Perry closing Sunday. Concert access requires race tickets for the corresponding day. No concert-only tickets exist, so seeing any of the headliners means committing to F1 ticket pricing. A three-day General Admission pass starts around AED 1,025 and covers all four concerts.
Five distinct Oases are located behind the Main, North, South, and West Grandstands, offering driver interviews, local food vendors, and family activities throughout the weekend. The setup transforms race day into something broader, though opinions vary on whether that enhances or dilutes the motorsport focus.
Ticket pricing reflects the entertainment package. General admission at Abu Dhabi Hill starts around AED 1,025. Grandstand seats cost AED 2,350 to AED 3,010 depending on location. Three-day passes include complimentary single-day access to one of the Yas Island Theme Parks (Ferrari World, Yas Waterworld, Warner Bros. World, or SeaWorld), in addition to access to the <a href="https://abudhabi-sothebysrealty.ae/en/the-journal/louvre-abu-dhabi-redefining-the-capital-through-art" rel="noopener">Louvre Abu Dhabi</a> and Qasr Al Watan.
&nbsp;
<h2>Gulf 12 Hours (December)</h2>
The week after F1 departs, endurance racing arrives. The Gulf 12 Hours takes place on 14 December 2025, in its 15th edition, bringing GT3 competition to Yas Marina without the surrounding entertainment apparatus. This is motorsport for people who care about pit strategy more than after-parties.
Twenty-four GT3 cars are expected, representing seven manufacturers: Aston Martin, Audi, Ferrari, Lamborghini, McLaren, Mercedes-AMG, and Porsche. The 2025 race introduces GTX1, a new category for Cup cars that adds another competitive tier without diluting the GT3 focus. Teams range from factory-backed operations to gentleman racers funding their own programmes.
The twelve-hour duration splits into two six-hour segments with a break between them. That break allows repairs that would retire cars in most endurance races, which keeps fields competitive longer. Teams rotate drivers every 90 minutes to two hours, managing fatigue whilst maintaining pace.
Racing continues into night, with strategies shifting as track temperatures drop. The challenge isn't just speed but consistency across drivers and conditions.
Entry typically costs little or nothing, especially for Grand Prix ticket holders who receive complimentary access. Crowds stay smaller compared to F1, which means better sightlines and closer access to team operations.
&nbsp;
<h2>Asian Le Mans Series Finale (January/February)</h2>
When European endurance racing pauses for winter, the Asian Le Mans Series begins. Four rounds culminate at Yas Marina each January or early February, with the finale determining who receives automatic entries to the 24 Hours of Le Mans. That connection to one of motorsport's biggest races pushes up the stakes.
LMP2 prototypes race alongside LMP3 and GT cars, creating three-class competition where faster categories must navigate through slower traffic constantly. Managing the speed differentials cleanly is what separates competent teams from excellent ones.
Events last four hours, long enough for strategy to develop but short enough that mechanical failures don't dominate results as they do in twelve or twenty-four-hour races. Teams experiment with driver lineups and technical setups they'll use at Le Mans months later. New prototype chassis make their competition debuts here. Partnerships get tested. Data gets collected.
The series attracts a specific audience: people who follow endurance racing year-round rather than casually watching the 24 Hours of Le Mans in France each June. Paddock access stays open, and you can watch pit stops from metres away.
&nbsp;
<h2>Yas Racing Series (October to March)</h2>
Most winter weekends host regional racing through the Yas Racing Series. The Formula Regional Middle East and F4 UAE championships operate primarily across January and February, providing track time when European championships pause. F4 UAE introduces teenagers to international competition.&nbsp;
Porsche Carrera Cup delivers one-make GT3 Cup racing. Gulf ProCar Championship adds local touring car flavour, often alongside the Gulf Radical Cup.
Multiple championships take place simultaneously, which means five to seven races across a weekend. Sessions start mid-morning and continue through late afternoon, with races often back-to-back. You can watch multiple classes of high-level racing from mid-morning through late afternoon without paying entry fees or dealing with assigned seating.
Paddocks stay accessible between sessions. Drivers walk through public areas. Teams work on cars without barriers separating them from spectators. It's motorsport operating as it did before commercial interests complicated everything, the kind of environment where a future Grand Prix winner might be racing in front of a few thousand people on a Saturday afternoon in November.
&nbsp;
<h2>Shaping the Future of Motorsports in Abu Dhabi</h2>
Yas Marina’s work extends past race weekends. The circuit runs Yas Heat, a development programme that identifies and trains Emirati driving talent from karting upwards. Several graduates have reached international competition, some moving into F4 and Formula Regional. It’s an attempt to build local motorsport infrastructure rather than just importing international events.
The circuit has also pushed environmental programmes that put it amongst motorsport’s more committed venues. The FIA gave Yas Marina Three-Star Environmental Certification, its highest level. Solar panels supplement power use. Water gets recycled to reduce demand. The circuit backs Formula 1’s net-zero carbon target for 2030, with waste reduction and renewable energy projects ongoing.
Over 300 people work at the circuit year-round, with numbers expanding during major events. The <a href="https://abudhabi-sothebysrealty.ae/en/the-journal/abu-dhabi-grand-prix/" rel="noopener">Abu Dhabi Grand Prix</a> weekend alone generates economic impact exceeding AED 1.16 billion, but the year-round activity matters more for sustaining Yas Island and establishing the emirate as a genuine motorsport venue rather than just another wealthy city hosting expensive races.
Educational programmes bring local schools to the circuit for STEM workshops built around motorsport. The Yas in Schools Experience Centre runs initiatives that reach thousands of Emirati students each year, teaching physics, engineering, and technology through racing. Whether this produces future F1 drivers or just creates audiences who understand what they’re watching remains unclear, but the long-term investment builds foundations that matter.
As such, Yas Marina becomes part of Abu Dhabi’s sporting infrastructure, beyond the entertainment aspect. Success depends on sustained commitment beyond headline events as the emirate develops other sporting interests.
&nbsp;
<h2>Pick Your Weekend</h2>
These events matter because they show different sides of what makes motorsport compelling. The Grand Prix brings entertainment and global attention. The Gulf 12 Hours tests strategy and endurance. Regional series provide access most international events can’t match. Pick one based on what interests you. Watching from grandstands beats watching on screens.

9 Best Gift Shops in Abu Dhabi – 2026

Discover the 9 best gift shops in Abu Dhabi for 2026, from luxury boutiques and design stores to traditional souks and unique local finds.

December is the season of giving – whether for Christmas, New Year, or simply because. In the age of same-day delivery and algorithmic recommendations, gift-giving has become increasingly transactional: an endless scroll, a digital checkout, and a sense of relief when (or if) the box arrives on time. For those looking to reconnect with the more thoughtful, tactile side of gifting – the kind sparked by wandering, not scrolling – Abu Dhabi is full of corners worth exploring. From considered concept stores to culture-rich souks and high-design boutiques, here are nine of the best gift shops to discover in the capital.
&nbsp;
<img src="https://143587181.fs1.hubspotusercontent-eu1.net/hubfs/143587181/best%20gift%20shop%20in%20abu%20dhabi.jpg" width="1000" height="668" loading="lazy" alt="best gift shop in abu dhabi" style="height: auto; max-width: 100%; width: 1000px;">
&nbsp;
<h2>Louvre Abu Dhabi Boutique, Saadiyat Island</h2>
The gift boutique at <a href="https://abudhabi-sothebysrealty.ae/en/the-journal/louvre-abu-dhabi-redefining-the-capital-through-art" rel="noopener">Louvre Abu Dhabi</a> is much more than a souvenir shop. A treasure trove of artfully curated finds, this is where you’ll spot everything from architecture books and Bauhaus journals to niche incense candles and Monet mugs. Beyond novelties, the boutique also stocks more meaningful and lasting gifts, like rare world maps and hardback exhibition catalogues you won’t find anywhere else. Even the kids’ section is well curated: think shadow theatre kits and build-your-own mosaics. For those who prefer experiences over things, you can also gift an annual membership to the gallery.
&nbsp;
<h2>Tryano, Yas Mall</h2>
A department store in name only, Tryano in Yas Mall is a luxury edit housed within a single, creatively composed space. Across three floors, it brings together fashion, beauty, homeware and lifestyle pieces from 360 global and regional names – from niche fragrances and cult skincare to cashmere scarves and design-forward accessories. This is where you’ll find a gift for the person who already has everything: a personalised perfume bottle, a candle from a hard-to-find label, or something small and sculptural more reminiscent of an independent Parisian atelier or a contemporary Beirut design studio than a conventional mall.
&nbsp;
<h2>Souk Al Bawadi, Al Ain</h2>
A world away from the glossy malls of the city, Souk Al Bawadi is one of the oldest trading districts in the region, and it’s still one of the best places to pick up a gift with character. For decades, locals have come to this sprawling 13,000 sq. m. souk for everything from hand-painted ceramics and oud burners to sacks of saffron, dried limes, and dates by the kilo. You’ll also find hand-woven throws, spice blends, and authentic clay dallahs – the perfect gift for the Arabic coffee lover. It’s not exactly curated, and that’s the charm: the joy here lies in the rummaging. Loud, fragrant, and a little chaotic, this is old-world UAE at its best, and well worth the drive.
&nbsp;
<h2>Abu Dhabi Gold Souk</h2>
All that glitters is gold is the motto here – and it’s a fair warning. Abu Dhabi’s Gold Souk is a labyrinth of jewellery retailers and goldsmiths inside Madinat Zayed Shopping Centre, jam-packed with everything from 22K gold bridal sets to understated rings and bracelets. For something more rooted in local tradition, you’ll also find natural pearls sourced from the Gulf, often set into minimalist pieces that nod to the region’s pre-oil history. Expect plenty of negotiation and craftsmanship that still runs deep.
&nbsp;
<h2>The Souk at Qaryat Al Beri, Khor Al Maqta</h2>
Set along the water in the Shangri-La, The Souk at Qaryat Al Beri is a small, photogenic stretch of boutiques, jewellery shops, perfumeries, and cafés. It’s smaller than Souk Al Bawadi, but the appeal lies in the experience – you can arrive by abra (a traditional water taxi) and enjoy an alfresco lunch with stunning views over Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque. You won’t find much in the way of fast fashion here, but you will find local perfumes, handmade accessories, and regional gift sets. Stop by The White Blossom for a bespoke bouquet of flowers, browse La Marquise for something sparkly, or just wander through aimlessly to find a hidden gem.
&nbsp;
<h2>Collective Africa, The Galleria</h2>
Tucked inside the quirky Flamingo Room at The Galleria, Collective Africa is part design boutique, part cabinet of curiosities. This curated retail space celebrates the very best of African craftsmanship with exotic leather bags, designer clothing (Okapi, AAKS, Pichulik), and unique objets d’art you’ll want to keep for yourself. Nothing here is mass-produced, and it shows. If you’re buying for someone who prefers the one-off over the obvious, this is a good place to start.
&nbsp;
<h2>Modest Gift, Various Locations</h2>
Modest Gift is one of Abu Dhabi’s most ubiquitous gift shops, often found in hotel lobbies, including Khalidiya Palace Rayhaan by Rotana and the Ritz‑Carlton Grand Canal. This familiar shop is dependable for those go-to gifts that will please even the fussiest of people: locally made chocolates, premium date boxes, niche perfumes, and more. Friendly staff and consistent stock make it a reliable fallback when you’re short on time or shopping at the more affordable end of the gift spectrum.
&nbsp;
<h2>Cities Design &amp; Lifestyle, The Galleria</h2>
Cities is one of the few places in Abu Dhabi that leans fully into contemporary culture. No oud burners or date boxes here – just sleek, pop-art statement pieces with eccentric, global appeal. You’ll find sculptural vases, Assouline books, collectible stationery, extravagant candelabras, and the occasional high-design gadget. Cities also stocks an extensive collection of Authentic Models pieces, including vintage telescopes, globes, and feather pen sets. This is where to go for your slightly off-beat friend or loved one, for whom a scented candle simply will not do.&nbsp;
&nbsp;
<h2>FNP, Online</h2>
While wandering through gift boutiques and old souks is lovely in theory, sometimes you’re simply crunched for time. FNP (formerly Ferns and Petals) is one of the best online retailers in Abu Dhabi for a quick, easy-pleasing gift, from personalised pillows and mugs to generous bouquets of red roses. This local brand has stepped things up in recent years with a more premium line: diamond hampers from Vega Jewels, Apple products (an iPhone 17 in a bed of roses, for instance), and silk scarves from Lumena Maison. With one-hour express delivery and curated categories for every occasion, FNP is your best bet when time is tight.

Saadiyat Beach Golf Club: Teeing off on Abu Dhabi’s Shores

Discover Saadiyat Beach Golf Club in Abu Dhabi, a world-class beachfront course by Gary Player with stunning views, luxury amenities and sustainability.

Flanked by the unspoilt shore of Saadiyat Island in Abu Dhabi, Saadiyat Beach Golf Club offers a golfing experience unlike any other in the Middle East. It represents the Gulf’s first true beachfront course, a Gary Player masterpiece where championship challenge and breathtaking natural beauty find common ground.&nbsp;
Ever since its opening in 2010, during which the inaugural Saadiyat Beach Classic was hosted by Player himself, this club has captivated the world’s elite golfers and discerning travellers. Today, Saadiat Beach Golf Club is not merely a place to play golf; it is an aspirational destination managed by Viya Golf (Troon) that attracts enthusiasts from across the globe, all eager to test their skills overlooking the azure expanse, white sand beaches, and even the occasional gaze of wildlife along the fairways.
&nbsp;
<img src="https://143587181.fs1.hubspotusercontent-eu1.net/hubfs/143587181/saadiyat%20beach%20golf%20club.jpg" width="1000" height="578" loading="lazy" alt="saadiyat beach golf club" style="height: auto; max-width: 100%; width: 1000px;">
<h2>Architecture &amp; Course Design</h2>
Legendary golfer Gary Player, the designer of Saadiyat Beach Golf Club, brought over half a century of expertise and a passion for bold yet playable courses. Player’s design team, led by architect Jeff Lawrence, was challenged to craft a layout worthy of Abu Dhabi’s high standards on a site of virgin dunes and salt flats. The upshot is&nbsp;a par-72 championship course that stretches over 5,290 yards to an astonishing 7,784 yards at the tips, offering length and versatility that can test the mettle of even the longest hitters.&nbsp;
The course’s signature imposing bunkers (over 60 in total) were strategically placed to both awe and intimidate. In fact, while Gary Player generally avoids extreme difficulty for the course’s sake, here he intentionally introduced visual bravado – vast sandy waste areas, flash-faced bunkers, and a links-like openness – to create a memorable challenge that still respects the stunning natural setting.&nbsp;
Equally impressive is the clubhouse – an architectural jewel envisioned by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Frank Gehry (in what would be his first-ever golf clubhouse project). The 18,000 square-metre clubhouse is an architectural marvel set just off the 18th green, which was designed by Abu Dhabi’s developers as a new international landmark. Broad terraces extend outward under sweeping glass canopies, inviting guests to enjoy panoramic views of the course and coastline in open-air comfort. The architect described his vision as “an ephemeral mirage floating above the greens”. Notably, designers used natural stone and metallic forms inspired by Saadiyat’s dunes, all while integrating energy-efficient and environmentally friendly technologies.&nbsp;
&nbsp;
<h2>Coastal Setting &amp; Views</h2>
Spread across more than 300 acres of island nature preserve, the layout winds through dunes and along pristine shorelines. Six of the holes offer panoramic vistas of the azure waters, and while the course edges the shoreline, play is oriented inland, allowing uninterrupted views of the sea without introducing coastal hazards during teeing off. At the short 17th hole, dubbed “The Arabian Oasis,” the back tee is perched directly by the sand, presenting an unforgettable view of sunlit shoreline. It’s easy to lose oneself in the moment here as the sky seems wider and the water bluer on Saadiyat than almost anywhere else in the region, creating a calming contrast to the intensity of the game.
The course resides within a cluster of 5-star properties, including luxurious resorts that dot Saadiyat Island’s coast. The coastal winds, carrying a hint of sea salt, can shift from a whisper in the morning to a challenging gust by afternoon, ensuring that each round is attuned to nature’s rhythm. The marriage of&nbsp;high-end luxury and the raw coastal environment is what gives Saadiyat Beach Golf Club an almost sensory, immersive quality.&nbsp;
&nbsp;
<h2>Amenities &amp; Clubhouse Experience</h2>
The experience of Saadiyat Beach Golf Club extends far beyond the 18th hole. Upon finishing a round on this challenging course, golfers step into the clubhouse where indoor-outdoor spaces allow for relaxation under lofty ceilings or out on the terraces – drink in hand and sweeping views of the course and the sea beyond. In the balmy evenings, the terraces become a social hub where stories of the day’s best shots are shared.
Inside, the clubhouse spares no detail in pampering its patrons. It features two gourmet restaurants that range from elegant fine dining to a casual 19th-hole. There is also a stylish clubhouse bar and ample indoor seating where one can cool off without ever losing sight of the shores. For those seeking rejuvenation or a break from golf, the club houses a premier spa facility which offers wellness treatments ranging from sports massages to holistic relaxation therapies. The pro shop is stocked with top-of-the-line equipment, apparel, and bespoke Saadiyat Beach Golf Club merchandise, so visitors can take home a piece of the club’s exclusivity.
A boutique hotel with 26 deluxe suites is part of the complex, making members' and tourists' accommodations just steps from the fairways.&nbsp;
&nbsp;
<h2>Events &amp; Tournament</h2>
From the outset, Saadiyat Beach Golf Club has been&nbsp;a staple of&nbsp;Abu Dhabi’s high-profile social calendar. The club’s grand opening was heralded by the Saadiyat Beach Classic, a charity pro-am (professional-amateur) tournament hosted by Gary Player. The event drew a star-studded field, with legendary names such as Rory McIlroy and European Ryder Cup heroes including Darren Clarke and Sam Torrance alongside celebrities from other arenas.
In the years since, Saadiyat Beach Golf Club has become the host venue of the Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies Open in 2016, making history as Abu Dhabi’s first-ever Ladies European Tour event. Over the course of that tournament and subsequent editions, many of the world’s top female golfers have competed on Saadiyat’s fairways, securing a coveted berth on the professional roster.
Saadiyat Beach Golf Club received recognition at the World Golf Awards by industry publications for being one of the finest courses in the region. It was voted “Best Golf Course in the UAE” in 2015 and later honoured as “Best Course in Abu Dhabi” in 2019.
&nbsp;
<h2>Environmental Stewardship</h2>
Early on, developers worked with ecologists, making the protection of native flora an integral part of the club’s development strategy – replanting indigenous dune grasses, rehabilitating a network of saltwater lagoons, and ensuring that the course’s footprint would enhance rather than compromise the local environment. Saadiyat Beach Golf Club is the only Audubon Certified Cooperative Sanctuary golf course in the UAE and the first in the entire Middle East.&nbsp;
The agronomy team made sure that recycled water is used to irrigate fairways and greens while introducing salt-tolerant turf varieties that thrive on effluent water with an irrigation system that ensures precision watering to eliminate waste. In recent years, the club has moved toward becoming plastic-free, and the clubhouse planned to meet rigorous sustainability standards (Estidama).
The wildlife sanctuary, surrounding the course, is a protected haven for a variety of species, some of which are rare or endangered. A herd of over 100 Arabian mountain gazelles roams freely across the course. Hawksbill sea turtles return year after year to lay their eggs in the sand. The club coordinates with conservation authorities to protect these nesting sites and often dims or turns off lights at night during hatching season so as not to disorient the baby turtles on their moonlit journey to the sea. Out at sea, just beyond the breakers, humpback dolphins and sea birds thrive in the protected marine waters; their sporadic sightings add up to the beauty of the scene. All told, there are over 190 species of birds that have been observed at Saadiyat Beach, including migratory and native species.
&nbsp;
<h2>A Final Reflection</h2>
Saadiyat Beach Golf Club’s main draw is in the way it effortlessly marries championship golf, environmental responsibility, and location. As a course, it meets international tournament standards while offering golfers variety and challenge shaped by natural coastal conditions. Tee times are available throughout the day, including sunrise and sunset slots, accommodating both early-morning rounds and late-afternoon play. The intertwining of tradition and technology is equally notable as coaching is supported by TrackMan ball-tracking radar, video analysis, on-course instruction, and golf fitness screening, reinforcing the club’s position as both a competitive venue and a cornerstone for long-term player development.

It grants entry through a day-pass model or seasonal memberships, allowing visitors to use its private beach, infinity pool, dining venues, spa facilities, and cabanas without an overnight stay. Sprawling over nearly 40,000 square metres of Abu Dhabi’s prime coast, the club is set within the confines of a Blue Flag-certified coastal zone, part of a protected marine environment that uses dune preservation measures. Beyond this, Saadiyat Island offers a chance to enjoy both coastal repose and cultural odyssey, as visitors can move easily from the beach to Saadiyat Cultural District.

&nbsp;
<h2>Contemporary Architecture with Timeless Charm</h2>
Saadiyat Beach Club’s architecture is the embodiment of contemporary elegance, harmonising naturally with the coastal landscape surrounding it. As it is designed by the acclaimed LW Design Group, the club’s clean lines and airy pavilions embrace the environment and create a seamless transition between indoor and outdoor. White-washed façades, expansive glass walls, and natural stone detailing reflect its Mediterranean modern style rather than traditional Gulf design. Indeed, the building was conceived to align with European architectural sensibilities while still paying homage to Arabian hospitality. Against this backdrop, the structure is sophisticated, light-filled, and frames the turquoise sea and powdery dunes as part of its decor. Inside, lofty ceilings and soft colour palettes invite daylight to create a dappled glow throughout the space. As evening falls, subtle lighting illuminates architectural accents – from colonnades to arabesque latticework (mashrabiya) – casting intricate shadows that add a touch of magic. Every architectural element has been curated with contemplation, making the club as much a living gallery as it is a leisure destination.
&nbsp;
<h2>Exclusive Lifestyle by the Sea</h2>
Originally launched in 2011 as the Monte-Carlo Beach Club – the first international outpost of Monaco’s storied beach club brand – it won acclaim within no time for its world-class service and facilities along Saadiyat’s untouched beach. Today, replaced by the Saadiyat Beach Club brand, it carries forward that legacy of exclusivity with a local touch. As for membership, it is a coveted privilege that affords entry into a select community of discerning individuals. Annual memberships command tens of thousands of dirhams, underscoring the club’s prestige, though day visitors are still welcomed via passes to share in the experience.
On any given day, the venue is populated with international art collectors discussing the latest gallery openings over cocktails, wellness enthusiasts enjoying a post-yoga juice by the pool, and families building sandcastles on the shore. Critically endangered hawksbill turtles nest each year under the care of Saadiyat’s safeguarded coast. From the salt-kissed air to the scent of grilled seafood curling up from a waterfront table, each moment at Saadiyat Beach Club is orchestrated to stir the senses.
&nbsp;
<h2>Amenities Designed for Unhurried Days</h2>
At the heart of the club is a suite of top-tier amenities, the centrepiece being an expansive 650-square-metre infinity pool that appears to stretch into the horizon. By day, its cool blue expanse offers a refreshing oasis under the sun, and by night, it mirrors the moonlight as lanterns flicker around its perimeter.&nbsp;
Scattered around the pool are private cabanas, chicly set where guests recline on plush daybeds, cooled by gentle sea breezes, indulging in handcrafted refreshments as they gaze across the seashore. A stone’s throw away lies the shallow children’s pool, which provides safe fun for little ones. For those seeking wellness and rejuvenation, the club’s fitness facilities leave nothing to be desired, with a serene, marble-clad spa and expert therapists. The offerings range from desert-sand scrubs to calming aromatherapy massages. These are complemented by wet facilities that rival those of a five-star resort, including Jacuzzis, traditional hammams, steam rooms, saunas, and cold plunge pools, completing the ritual of relaxation. Adjacent to the spa is a state-of-the-art gym with high-end equipment and panoramic windows, allowing one to jog on a treadmill while overlooking waves lapping the shore – a workout for the body with a view that nourishes the soul. Personal trainers are on hand for customised sessions, whether you prefer sunrise beach yoga or an energetic aqua aerobics class in the pool.
&nbsp;
<h2>Culinary Experiences: From Sunrise Brunches to Starlit Dinners</h2>
No luxury club experience is complete without exceptional dining, and Saadiyat Beach Club outstrips its counterparts with its culinary offerings. Safina, the club’s signature Mediterranean restaurant, is a gastronomic journey where, by day, it invites guests into a sunlit dining room with airy interiors and subtle nautical touches – a homage to Abu Dhabi’s seafaring heritage – and by night, it morphs into a sophisticated bistro where the candlelight flickers on white-clothed tables. On the menu, French and Italian Riviera-inspired dishes celebrate the sea’s bounty and regional farm produce. Safina is also famed for its Farm-to-Beach Saturday Brunch, a lavish selection where gourmands take pleasure in towers of oysters and king crab, artfully arranged sushi platters, and live grill stations – all enjoyed with the soundtrack of upbeat music and laughter spilling in from the poolside.
For those craving a soupçon of Gallic charm – a dash of French bistro dining – La Salle Bistro offers an intimate French dining experience, tucked within the club’s grounds, with gourmet classics and a boutique wine selection. As the club’s more casual venues invite guests to dine with their toes in the sand, Cabana 9, an exclusive lounge area by the pool, serves light bites and craft cocktails delivered to your private cabana. At sundown, the energy shifts to the Beach Bar, perched directly on the sand at the water’s edge. Here, under a canopy of stars, one can sip a chilled glass of vintage champagne or a tropical mocktail infused with local fruits.
&nbsp;
<h2>Celebrations, Culture, and Unforgettable Events</h2>
Saadiyat Beach Club has matured into a cultural and social nexus. Its Sea Lounge – an open-air pavilion overlooking the sea – plays host to an elegant calendar of soirées, from twilight fashion shows to high-profile galas beneath the stars. During Modest Fashion Week’s closing event, the lawn twinkled with fairy lights as international designers, dignitaries, and media mingled in evening finery.
This coastal club is a celebration venue of life's milestones, ranging from romantic beachfront weddings – complete with lantern-lit aisles and sunsets that turn the horizon rose-gold – to corporate events and luxury automotive launches where Porsche, Bentley, and Lamborghini debut their newest models to a curated audience of VIPs, media, and potential buyers. The in-house team ensures each occasion, whether a wellness retreat or a gourmet tasting under the stars, unfolds flawlessly.
&nbsp;
<h2>A Final Reckoning&nbsp;</h2>
Saadiyat Beach Club occupies a pivotal position on Saadiyat Island, a globally recognised cultural and ecological hub in Abu Dhabi. Minutes from landmarks like the <a href="https://abudhabi-sothebysrealty.ae/en/the-journal/louvre-abu-dhabi-redefining-the-capital-through-art" rel="noopener">Louvre Abu Dhabi</a> and soon-to-open <a href="https://abudhabi-sothebysrealty.ae/en/the-journal/guggenheim-museum-abu-dhabi" rel="noopener">Guggenheim</a> and Zayed National Museum, the club is immersed in one of the world’s rising art capitals. As an 8-kilometre beachfront and part of a protected marine reserve, Saadiyat Beach Club blends refined leisure, natural beauty, and art proximity that provide luxury travellers and investors with a rare balance of exclusivity and lasting value in one of the UAE’s most sought-after destinations.

Family-Friendly Activities at Yas Marina Circuit

Enjoy family-friendly activities at Yas Marina Circuit with karting for children, running on the F1 track, and exciting ride experiences for teens.

Most Formula 1 circuits lock their gates between race weekends. Yas Marina Circuit stays open. What was built for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix has become a public facility that happens to host world championship motorsport.

This matters for families in Abu Dhabi. Year-round activities let children drive karts on racing tarmac, parents run the same corners where title battles got decided, and teenagers experience what 200mph feels like from a passenger seat. Motorsport becomes accessible beyond the professional level.

<h2>Running Where Champions Race</h2>
TrainYAS opens the entire 5.281-kilometre Grand Prix layout to the public on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6pm to 10pm, free of charge. Anyone can walk, run, or cycle an FIA Grade 1 circuit.
Some cyclists chase personal records on the main straight, while others bring young children on bikes, taking advantage of a completely car-free environment. Parents with multiple children appreciate the age flexibility – a six-year-old can walk whilst their teenage sibling cycles. The venue offers complimentary bicycle hire, though availability varies during peak periods.
Tuesday evenings host TrainYAS Ladies, a women-only version with group fitness classes alongside track access. Yoga and Zumba happen on the start-finish straight.&nbsp;
TrainAM operates select mornings for cyclists who want laps before work.
Running through the turn where Verstappen overtook Hamilton in 2021, or cycling beneath the Yas Marina Hotel’s illuminated canopy, creates a connection to motorsport you don’t get from grandstands. You understand corner angles differently when you’re moving through them yourself.
&nbsp;
<h2>Yas Kartzone</h2>
Yas Kartzone operates daily within the complex. The 1-kilometre track has multiple configurations that adjust difficulty based on ability, from layouts for beginners to technical sections that challenge competitive racers.
Junior races cater to children aged 8 to 12, using 160cc karts built for smaller frames. The eight-year age minimum means most primary school children qualify. Safety briefings cover racing lines, braking points, and track etiquette. Instructors focus on car control and spatial awareness.
Senior karts accept those aged 13 and older, with engines capable of 90 km/h. These respond faster, brake harder, and need technique to extract competitive lap times. Timing screens display sector splits and positions, turning casual outings into competitive races.
Prices start around AED 145, with discounts for Yas Island residents. The venue hosts competitive championships, though casual slots remain available.

&nbsp;
<h2>Passenger Experiences</h2>
Older teenagers have options beyond karting. Driving experiences require valid licences and typically impose an 18-year minimum age, but passenger rides work for those not yet qualified.
The Drift Taxi places passengers in a modified Chevrolet Camaro SS for controlled high-speed drifting. Professionals slide through corners whilst passengers feel forces that road driving never reaches. Track time lasts approximately 15 minutes and costs around AED 400.
The Radical SST– a British-built track car – offers different sensations. Purpose-built racing cars accelerate and corner at speeds that road-legal vehicles can’t match. Passengers sit low in minimal bodywork, feeling every bump and camber change. The experience shows what drivers manage during races – the physical demands of maintaining concentration under sustained g-forces.
Adults and older teenagers with a driving licence can book the circuit's driving experiences. The Aston Martin GT4 has a 4.0-litre V8 and racing slicks. The Formula Yas 3000 single-seater represents the closest public access to Formula 1 characteristics, with a paddle-shift gearbox, downforce aerodynamics, and performance that requires instruction.
All include coaching tailored to capability. Instructors focus on racing lines, braking points, and throttle application. Onboard cameras record every lap.

&nbsp;
<h2>Circuit Tours</h2>
Guided tours happen Tuesday through Saturday, typically between 10am and 4pm, lasting approximately two hours. Access includes the pit lane, team garages, Race Control, and the Paddock Club suites that host VIP guests during race weekends.
Race Control shows how officials manage 20 cars travelling at 300 km/h simultaneously, monitoring sector times, track conditions, and safety protocols in real time. The media centre displays broadcast operations supporting global coverage.&nbsp;
Paddock Club areas show the hospitality logistics required when government officials and corporate sponsors expect high-level service whilst races happen metres away.
Guides often come from racing backgrounds – former competitors or marshals who add context beyond standard facts. They explain how teams prepare cars between rounds, what mechanics monitor during pit stops, and how track conditions affect race strategy. Tours cost around AED 150 for adults, with reduced rates for children.
&nbsp;
<h2>Grassroots Racing</h2>
The Yas Racing Series happens most winter weekends, hosting regional championships across multiple categories. Unlike Grand Prix weekends with restricted access and premium pricing, these events offer free entry and open paddocks. You can watch Gulf ProCar Championship touring cars, Formula 4 UAE open-wheelers, and Gulf Radical Cup prototypes competing across the same afternoon.
Paddock access means children observe mechanics working on cars, teams discussing strategy, and competitors preparing for races.&nbsp;
The Yas Marina Promenade surrounds the venue with restaurants, cafes, and outdoor spaces, as well as a playground, musical water fountain, and marina views.
&nbsp;
<h2>Beyond Race Weekends</h2>
Fifteen years ago, critics questioned whether building a Formula 1 circuit in Abu Dhabi made financial sense. The answer came from keeping the gates open between race weekends instead of locking them.
While most F1 circuits sit empty 50 weeks a year, Yas Marina chose differently. By staying open to runners, families, amateur racers, and fitness groups, the venue built something beyond the handful of weekends when championship cars appear. It created a place where motorsport exists daily rather than as a spectacle.
What makes it work is authenticity. The track doesn’t offer a simulation of racing – it offers the real thing, just scaled to different capabilities. An eight-year-old in a kart is still learning race craft on the same tarmac Lewis Hamilton uses. That matters more than any manufactured experience could.

New Year’s Eve Fireworks in Abu Dhabi: The Capital’s Most Captivating Displays

Experience spectacular New Year fireworks in Abu Dhabi, lighting up iconic locations with dazzling displays, family-friendly celebrations and more.

At the time midnight nears on New Year’s Eve, Abu Dhabi’s sky becomes a sequence of illuminated landmarks. Rather than a single focal point, the capital offers a series of well-loved viewing spots where fireworks arc over its waters, palaces, and modern urban quarters. The night displays ripple across the city from Al Wathba’s vast festival grounds to the polished waterfronts of Al Maryah Island, and from Yas Bay’s lively promenade to the long sweep of the Corniche. Each place carries its own distinct feel, with music drifting through the gentle breeze and crowds gathering cheerfully as the clock edges towards twelve. With diners and hotel guests already settling in, the entire setup is poised for the countdown.&nbsp;
Then, as the final seconds fall away, Fireworks rise from islands, beaches, and desert edges altogether, reflected across the water in long, shimmering strokes. For a brief moment, the capital feels both expansive and intimate, a place where thousands stand together under the same sky, welcoming the new year.
&nbsp;Below is a curated guide to the capital’s most atmospheric places to welcome 2026.
&nbsp;
<img src="https://143587181.fs1.hubspotusercontent-eu1.net/hubfs/143587181/shutterstock_2168308009.jpg" width="1000" height="667" loading="lazy" alt="shutterstock_2168308009" style="height: auto; max-width: 100%; width: 1000px;">
&nbsp;
&nbsp;
<h2 style="font-size: 36px;">Emirates Palace Mandarin Oriental</h2>
The Mandarin Oriental settings feel much intrinsically tied to Abu Dhabi’s celebratory calendar. On New Year’s Eve, the beachfront becomes a linear viewing terrace, with a full view of the midnight display as it rises above the Corniche. The Palace’s landscaped pathways, illuminated domes, and spacious terraces create a naturally elevated perspective; it is the perfectly refined place to gather before the sky breaks into colour. From neighbouring jetties and waterfront lounges, the fireworks appear framed by the palace’s signature arches, making it one of the city’s most recognisable scenes of the night.
&nbsp;
<h2 style="font-size: 36px;">Yas Bay Waterfront</h2>
Yas Bay, with its wide boardwalk, has become one of the capital’s most atmospheric spots for New Year fireworks. The bay is known for its open water and a cluster of upscale rooftop spaces. As midnight approaches, the whole promenade turns its gaze skywards as fireworks rise above the bay and scatter their reflection above the water. It’s a setting made for those who prefer a sociable, open-air celebration, contemporary, vibrantly lit, and surrounded by modern dining rooms whose terraces extend towards the waterfront.
&nbsp;
<h2 style="font-size: 36px;">Ishtar at Yas Marina</h2>
Yas Marina is famed for its dining and nightlife and is an excellent location to watch the spectacular New Year’s midnight fireworks display that is launched above Yas Bay. Ishtar’s rooftop vantage point offers a distinctive perspective – fireworks from Yas Bay in the distance, set against the marina’s soft lighting and the curve of moored boats. The atmosphere is refined and sophisticated with New Year’s music drifting across the water, soft evening air, and views though intimate, still feel connected to the wider Yas Island celebrations.
&nbsp;
<h2 style="font-size: 36px;">Al Maryah Island</h2>
New Year’s Eve on <a href="https://abudhabi-sothebysrealty.ae/en/the-journal/al-maryah-island" rel="noopener">Al Maryah Island</a> has its own polished urban character. Onlookers and spectators gather, forming a gentle stream awaiting the island’s firework set above the water, between the towers of Al Maryah and the silhouette of Reem Island. Five-star hotels, such as Rosewood and Four Seasons, have their terraces converted into elegant viewing decks, and the reflections from the glass towers amplify the brightness of the fireworks. The whole ambiance is distinctly metropolitan with its refined and architectural details.
&nbsp;
<h2 style="font-size: 36px;">Al Qana</h2>
One of Abu Dhabi’s most appealing substitutes of island districts, Al Qana has its own generous promenade and its dual-night fireworks programme. The displays span above the canal as they create long reflections across the water and a particularly photogenic backdrop that is framed by the development’s modern pavilions. It is home to some of the best fine dining restaurants, including those recognised by the Michelin Guide like Oii and Otoro, which offer elevated perspectives for those who want the clearest view without the crowds. Al Qana strikes a balance of polished, family-friendly, and spacious, while maintaining the unmistakable energy of a destination that has become a favourite for New Year’s viewing.
&nbsp;
<h2 style="font-size: 36px;">Sheikh Zayed Festival – Al &nbsp;Wathba</h2>
For those looking for a more expansive display, the Sheikh Zayed Festival bestows one of the capital’s largest fireworks sequences. The scale is impressive with long runs of colour unfolding above the festival grounds, drawing in large audiences and feeling more like a celebratory tradition than a brief midnight spectacle. Meanwhile, lantern-lined walkways, cultural showcases, and the desert horizon still produce a surprisingly poetic contrast with the fireworks overhead. For many residents, it marks the most emblematic midnight moment of the year.
&nbsp;
<h2 style="font-size: 36px;">The St. Regis Abu Dhabi – Nation Riviera Beach Club</h2>
Set along its private stretch of the Corniche, The St. Regis Abu Dhabi offers one of the most elegant vantage points for New Year’s fireworks. Guests gather along the Nation Riviera Beach Club, where the midnight display unfolds directly above the water. The scene is beautifully framed by the curve of the shoreline, the gentle glow of the city lights, and the hotel’s neoclassical façade. Inside, the St. Regis’ celebrated dining rooms and terraces maintain a sense of old-world refinement, making it a favourite for those seeking a polished, beachfront New Year with unobstructed views.
&nbsp;
<h2 style="font-size: 36px;">Conrad Abu Dhabi Etihad Towers – Observation Deck at 300</h2>
If height holds more appeal than shoreline, the Observation Deck at 300 has one of the clearest aerial perspectives over the Corniche fireworks. When the clock strikes 12, the horizon unravels a sequenced line of colour from the breakwater to the palace; here, the towers’ glass panels catch each burst like facets of a gem. Going downstairs, the hotel’s dining venues offer another mode of celebration, hosting sophisticated gatherings that look out toward the water with midnight countdown moments, but the top-floor vantage point remains the hotel’s most dramatic experience.
&nbsp;
<h2 style="font-size: 36px;">Final note</h2>
These venues are among Abu Dhabi’s most celebrated firework-viewing settings. They blend waterfront perspectives, refined hotel terraces, and festival landmarks that ring in the new year and mark the shift into a new chapter of the city’s calendar and together they form the tone of New Year’s Eve in the capital.

At the time midnight nears on New Year’s Eve, Abu Dhabi’s sky becomes a sequence of illuminated landmarks. Rather than a single focal point, the capital offers a series of well-loved viewing spots where fireworks arc over its waters, palaces, and modern urban quarters. The night displays ripple across the city from Al Wathba’s vast festival grounds to the polished waterfronts of Al Maryah Island, and from Yas Bay’s lively promenade to the long sweep of the Corniche. Each place carries its own distinct feel, with music drifting through the gentle breeze and crowds gathering cheerfully as the clock edges towards twelve. With diners and hotel guests already settling in, the entire setup is poised for the countdown.&nbsp;

The Most Instagrammable Cafés in Abu Dhabi

Discover Abu Dhabi's most Instagrammable cafes! From chic Saadiyat to elegant Al Maryah, find stunning spots for coffee & cake.

A spot of café-hopping in Abu Dhabi is no longer a modest affair of coffee, cake and a hurried table. The capital’s best-looking cafés and café-led dining rooms now occupy some of its most polished corners, from Saadiyat Island’s beachside promenades and the cultural district around Louvre Abu Dhabi to the palatial lounges of Emirates Palace Mandarin Oriental and the glossy dining rooms of Al Maryah Island.
These are not casual pit stops between errands. They are places to settle in properly: for a birthday breakfast, a long-overdue catch-up, an elegant afternoon coffee or a slice of cake that arrives with enough flourish to pause conversation for a moment. The pleasure is in the whole arrangement – the marble counter, the flower bar, the pink dining room, the sea-facing terrace, the immaculate croissant, the gold-dusted coffee — all of which make Abu Dhabi’s café scene feel increasingly grown-up, decorative and worth dressing for.

<h2 id="h.86ig1p1oyjih" class="c5">ANKO Japanese Patisserie and Café</h2>
ANKO sits on Saadiyat Island, close to Abu Dhabi’s cultural district, and feels well placed among the capital’s galleries, museums and carefully planned cultural addresses. The café has a white-on-white setting, curved forms, glass pastry counters and a rooftop terrace that looks especially striking at sunset, with rounded staircases, white outdoor seating and views towards the water.
The photographs here are best kept simple. A cup of matcha on a white table, a layered cake beside a ceramic cup, or an iced coffee against the café’s clean interior will say enough. For a more playful moment, ANKO’s photo-printed coffee adds a personal touch, with small images appearing on the foam and turning a quiet coffee order into one of the café’s most shareable details. There is no heavy pattern, no floral wall and no crowded backdrop, only good light, careful presentation and a setting that suits neat, composed images.
The menu follows the same tidy rhythm, with matcha, coffee, delicate cakes, pastries and polished savoury plates presented with care. ANKO is particularly good in the morning, late afternoon or early evening, when the white interiors and rooftop curves give the food and drinks a sharper, more elegant frame.

<h2 id="h.i44rz95etip5" class="c5">Society Abu Dhabi</h2>
On Mamsha Al Saadiyat, Society has the beach within easy view before the first coffee even arrives. It sits along one of the capital’s most attractive waterfront promenades, where mornings are bright, weekends feel sociable and the sea gives the whole setting a more leisurely air.
Inside, the room is dressed in warm neutrals, olive and mustard tones, with touches of gold and copper giving it a little lift without making it feel overdone. Art deco details, generous glazing and soft beach light make it particularly kind to photographs, whether the frame is a table by the window, a pastry against the interior, or coffee carried out onto the terrace.
The menu is well suited to an unhurried morning. Eggs, pancakes, French toast, Greek yoghurt, granola, acai bowls, Khachapuri, Shakshuka and Turkish eggs bring enough colour and variety to the table for brunch to feel properly abundant. Society is best reserved for a sunlit breakfast, a dressed-up coffee by the water, or the sort of weekend table that naturally turns into a longer stay.
&nbsp;
<h2 id="h.7ay8557e94j" class="c5">EL&amp;N London</h2>
Few cafés in Abu Dhabi commit to theatre quite as confidently as EL&amp;N. At Yas Bay Waterfront, the London-born café arrives in full pink form, with a hot-pink façade, floral details, glossy counters and enough bright corners inside and out to make the visit feel deliberately playful from the start.
The mood is unapologetically pretty. It is best suited to birthdays, dressed-up coffee dates and afternoons when subtlety is not the point. The room favours pink seating, statement signage, cake displays and polished dessert counters, giving plenty of choice between close-up table shots and wider photographs of the café itself.
The menu keeps pace with the setting. Mini cereal pancakes, pink waffles, French toast, pastel drinks, iced coffees and decorated cakes all arrive with the sort of colour and flourish that asks for a photograph before the first bite. Its Marina Mall and Reem Mall branches give the brand further Abu Dhabi reach, though Yas Bay remains the strongest choice for the full pink-café moment.
&nbsp;
<h2 id="h.j76jragku6vs" class="c5">Flamingo Room by tashas</h2>
Flamingo Room by tashas brings a more grown-up shade of pink to The Galleria on <a href="https://abudhabi-sothebysrealty.ae/en/the-journal/al-maryah-island" rel="noopener">Al Maryah Island</a>. Although it is a restaurant rather than a traditional café, its blush interiors, dessert presentation and beautifully styled drinks give it plenty of café-worthy Instagram moments, especially for a polished lunch, afternoon booking or dessert-led visit.
The experience begins before the table, with a leafy green entrance that feels almost conservatory-like against the gloss of Al Maryah Island. Inside, the mood turns softer and more decorative, with blush tones, tropical planting, zebra-print accents and gleaming brass. Oversized petal-like lights spread across the ceiling, while the curved bar, patterned tiles, shell-shaped plates, sculptural glassware and soft pink seating give the room plenty of close-up detail.
Food arrives with the same sense of occasion. Sharing plates, seafood, colourful sauces and polished desserts sit beautifully against the coral tables, while the bombe Alaska is the sort of final course that deserves a pause before the spoon goes in. Flamingo Room is not a pure café, but for grown-up pink glamour, long lunches and photographs that feel dressed rather than playful, it is too good to leave out.
&nbsp;
<h2 id="h.4d2l49308ad5" class="c5">Episodes, Emirates Palace Mandarin Oriental</h2>
For grand-hotel café culture, Episodes at Emirates Palace Mandarin Oriental is difficult to rival. Coffee is served beneath chandeliers rather than collected from a counter. Inside Emirates Palace Mandarin Oriental, the room brings together polished marble, gilded ceilings, soft armchairs and pink blossom arrangements, with cake counters and tea displays placed beneath sweeping arches.
The café is arranged as a series of elegant counters, moving from tea and deli offerings to cakes and gelato. This gives the visit several natural photographs, from a gold-dusted coffee on fine china to a tiered afternoon tea stand, a pastry chosen from the glass display or a wider shot of the lobby with its chandeliers, flowers and palace columns behind.
Episodes is best suited to a proper afternoon pause rather than a quick coffee. It has the ceremony of a hotel lounge, the sweetness of a cake shop and the grandeur of one of Abu Dhabi’s best-known addresses. For photographs, the most handsome frames are close to the blossom trees, the illuminated counters or the grand lobby seating, where even a simple cappuccino feels part of the occasion.
&nbsp;
<h2 id="h.tpiqidfn425r" class="c5">Café Ginori Saadiyat Island</h2>
Café Ginori brings a distinctly Italian sense of colour to The St. Regis Saadiyat Island Resort, with the sort of tables that look arranged for a magazine before the order has even arrived. It is one of Abu Dhabi’s prettiest café additions, helped by its resort address, views across Saadiyat Island and a room dressed with patterned upholstery, dark display cabinets, soft lighting and shelves of Ginori 1735 porcelain.
The appeal is in the table as much as the room. Teapots, cups, saucers and plates arrive in vivid Ginori patterns, turning afternoon tea, coffee and dessert into proper picture material. Tiered stands, delicate pastries, savoury bites, colourful crockery and neatly poured coffee give the visit a dressed-up quality without feeling stiff.
The terrace adds another handsome angle, especially when the table is placed against the greenery, sea views and late-afternoon light. Café Ginori is best for a long breakfast, afternoon tea or a polished coffee-and-cake visit, particularly for those who want their photographs to feel elegant, colourful and unmistakably Saadiyat.
&nbsp;
<h2 id="h.jgzhz138k37" class="c5">Fouquet’s Abu Dhabi, Louvre Abu Dhabi</h2>
Fouquet’s gives Abu Dhabi a polished Parisian café-brasserie moment within the grounds of <a href="https://abudhabi-sothebysrealty.ae/en/the-journal/louvre-abu-dhabi-redefining-the-capital-through-art" rel="noopener">Louvre Abu Dhabi</a>. It is best approached after a museum visit or for a late-afternoon table, when the setting feels unhurried and the terrace begins to catch the softer Saadiyat light.
Inside, the mood is crisp and formal in the French way, with white tablecloths, red chairs, chandeliers, mirrored details and neatly dressed tables. Outside, the terrace is equally photogenic, with tall white columns, red cushions, black planters, water views and the museum close by. It is a very handsome backdrop for those who prefer a smarter photograph over a decorative café scene.
The café side is strongest during coffee, tea and dessert hours, when the order can be kept lighter and still feel properly indulgent. The red afternoon tea case is the signature shot, opening like a small lacquered cabinet to reveal pastries, savoury bites, jams and sweets. Add fine china, a Champagne flute, French desserts and the brasserie’s sharp red accents, and Fouquet’s becomes one of Abu Dhabi’s most elegant choices for a photograph that feels dressed, measured and unmistakably French.

UAE’s National Day Fireworks in Abu Dhabi

UAE’s National Day Fireworks in Abu Dhabi: The Capital’s Most Atmospheric Displays

Celebrate National Day fireworks Abu Dhabi with dazzling displays, rich heritage, and vibrant gatherings across the capital’s iconic waterfronts this season.

On National Day, celebrated on 2 December, anticipation settles over Abu Dhabi in much the same way that the desert holds its breath before the sun crowns the dunes – preceding a series of celebrations and fireworks that cast colour across the evening sky.
The story of The Union, or what is known as “ Etihad” in Arabic, reaches back to the coastal settlements, where communities bound by tribal ties laid the early foundations of a nation. Their steady collective heartbeat had guided the country towards unification in 1971. Since then, locals and long-time residents gather every year, across the capital, in the majlis, along open beaches or in lively squares. People of all ages and walks of life celebrate together, waving flags of the UAE or fastening them to their cars.
From the Corniche to Hudayriyat, Yas Bay, and the wide expanses of Al Dhafra, the city seems to shine all at once – alight with fireworks above the warmth of the celebration. Here is a selection of the finest spots to mark the occasion.
<img src="https://143587181.fs1.hubspotusercontent-eu1.net/hubfs/143587181/UAE%E2%80%99s%20National%20Day%20Fireworks%20in%20Abu%20Dhabi.jpg" width="1000" height="667" loading="lazy" alt="UAE’s National Day Fireworks in Abu Dhabi" style="height: auto; max-width: 100%; width: 1000px;">
&nbsp;
<h2 style="text-align: justify; font-size: 36px;">Emirates Palace Mandarin Oriental</h2>
Emirates Palace Mandarin Oriental is among the most spellbinding settings in the capital for this occasion. The hotel’s façade is awashed in a gentle amber hue as soon as the dusk settles above its vast domes and polished lawns. As the pulse of the celebrations strengthens, the palace becomes in every sense a canvas, illuminated with colours and cultural motifs that reflect the UAE’s heritage.
The fireworks, which rise above the gardens in cascading lines, are reflected across the fountains and pools, and their light ripple in harmony with the night sky. Adding to the momentum, Emirates Palace Mandarin Oriental offers cultural activities and a dedicated programme of celebrations, placing it among the most cherished national day spots for families, travellers, and residents.

<h2 style="text-align: justify; font-size: 36px;">Yas Bay Waterfront</h2>
Yas Bay Waterfront holds a particular charm, as cafés, galleries, and outdoor promenades trace the water’s edge, forming a setting that feels quite vibrant. The National Day weekend ignites the atmosphere even further, as fireworks illuminate the sky on both 2 and 3 December, starting at 9 pm – two evenings in which the promenade takes on the air of a festival, alive with colour, music, and movement.
Classic cars gleam beneath soft lighting, and visitors stroll along the waterfront, as cultural performances come in graceful succession and families settle along the balustrades in anticipation. Once the fireworks take to the sky, their reflection starts to sweep across the bay, turning it into one of the emirate's most vibrant places to celebrate the occasion.

<h2 style="text-align: justify; font-size: 36px;">Al Maryah Island</h2>
<a href="https://abudhabi-sothebysrealty.ae/en/the-journal/al-maryah-island" rel="noopener">Al Maryah Island</a>, with its polished urban setting that softens in the calm winter atmosphere settling over the capital in early December, has recently become a pillar and a tradition for the National Day. On the evenings of 2 and 3 December, the waterfront promenade has fireworks rising high above in a dramatic show with light, water, and heritage boats. Terraces fill with diners that linger long after the supper, and The <a href="https://abudhabi-sothebysrealty.ae/en/the-journal/galleria-mall-restaurants" rel="noopener">Galleria restaurants</a> – including 99 Sushi Bar and restaurant, LPM Bar, and Flamingo Room by Tasha – make for exceptional viewing points. Meanwhile, Rosewood and Four Seasons feature plush views from above.&nbsp;
Just when the celebrations start, traffic slows, and all bridges leading to the island are closed to vehicles between 8:45-9:45 for a smoother experience.

<h2 style="text-align: justify; font-size: 36px;">Abu Dhabi Corniche</h2>
Spanning nearly 8 km along the western waterfront, Abu Dhabi Corniche has long been a cult-favourite when it comes to gathering spots. It is an ideal backdrop for the national Day celebrations with its promenade lined with cycle paths, fountains, and broad, manicured gardens. Families arrive early, enjoying the sea breeze as the city collectively shifts into celebration mode.
According to the official programme, the cornich display begins at 9:00 pm on 2 December, synchronised with music, lasers, and a fleet of drones – making it one of the most breathtaking vantage points in the capital&nbsp;&nbsp;

<h2 style="text-align: justify; font-size: 36px;">Marsana, Hudayriyat Island</h2>
Marsana is one of Abu Dhabi’s most thoughtfully designed beachside destinations. During the National Day weekend, in the afternoon, residents and visitors gather either strolling or sitting at the cafes. This year, the programme runs from 4 pm, featuring market stalls, traditional Ayala dancers and drumming with a selection of interactive entertainment for children, all leading up to the great firework display at 9:00 pm.
The Hudayriyat’s coastal terrain and generous spaces make the spectacle feel even more expansive as the fireworks soar. The food stalls and shaded lounge corners make the evening celebration all the more pleasant.

<h2 style="text-align: justify; font-size: 36px;">Sheikh Zayed Heritage Festival</h2>
Held in Al Wathba, this festival is already a vast commemoration of the Emirati heritage, and with the National Day celebrations, it is regarded as the most immersive venue to celebrate the day. Traditional souqs stretch across the grounds with themed pavilions, folkloric stages, and live craft demonstrations. As one of Abu Dhabi’s longest fireworks displays, the programme includes laser shows and drone formations that sweep across the desert sky. The festival presents the Heritage Village, with a softly lit traditional fountain, laser shows, and nightly cultural performances from more than 20 participating countries, making it a living tapestry of global traditions.
As visitors wander through, they encounter everything from Ayala and Harbiya performances to pottery workshops, falconry displays, and storytelling sessions. Families often pause for the much-loved Union Parade, and by the time the clock reaches 9:00 pm, fireworks illuminate the alleyways and the traditional architecture inspired by the old fortresses and settlements of the Emirates.&nbsp;

<h2 style="text-align: justify; font-size: 36px;">Al Qana</h2>
Among the capital's most refined waterfronts, Al Qana provides a striking setting for the National Day celebration every year. The promenade, which stretches along 2.4 km, comes into its own as festivities unfold between 1-3 December. Cultural showcases include children’s activities and pop-up markets. Though many choose to watch the fireworks from the water’s edge, the experience reaches its height from a table overlooking the canal or one of the terraces of its fine-dining restaurants – including Tazal, a Michelin-recognised venue known for contemporary Arabic-inspired cuisine, Otoro, awarded a Michelin Bib Gourmand in 2024, and Terra, celebrated for its Mediterranean-leaning menu and fine interiors. Al Qana, aside from being elegant and warmly communal, is considered a contemporary vantage point and a place to be immersed in the city’s celebratory spirit.

As one of the prime National Day venues, Madinat Zayed Public Park has long been known as the community’s heart. On National Day, families arrive early to savour the moments, with small pop-ups and children's zones lining the lawns with fewer crowds than in the city. When the clock strikes 9:00 pm – in step with the wider Dhafra programme&nbsp; – fireworks rise and fall, giving the park a gentle glow that suits the region’s most accessible gathering spot.

<h2 style="text-align: justify; font-size: 36px;">A Final Reflection</h2>
There are moments during National Day when the nostalgia of the past, the vitality of the present, and the promise of a shared future seem to intertwine, giving these celebrations their particular resonance. Across <a href="https://abudhabi-sothebysrealty.ae/en" rel="noopener">Abu Dhabi</a>, Al Ain and the Al Dhafra region, each fireworks display becomes a chapter in this larger story, and wherever one chooses to stand on 2 December, there is a gentle sense – as the final sparks fade, familiar to anyone who has watched these skies year after year – that this is not only a nation simply marking a date, these are reaffirmations of the values that first brought it together.&nbsp;

On National Day, celebrated on 2 December, anticipation settles over Abu Dhabi in much the same way that the desert holds its breath before the sun crowns the dunes – preceding a series of celebrations and fireworks that cast colour across the evening sky.

Private Schools in Abu Dhabi

Explore the best private schools in Abu Dhabi, offering top-tier academics, global curricula, modern facilities and nurturing environments for every age group.

Private education has always carried a certain reputation: part tradition, part ambition, part reassurance. In Abu Dhabi, that mix plays out differently. Parents aren't chasing heritage or ivy-covered buildings, but the same principle holds: the right school still feels like an investment in stability and opportunity.

The city now has over two hundred private schools, British, IB, American, Canadian, bilingual hybrids. Some reflect long-established UK or US models. Others have built their reputations entirely here. The distinctions rarely come down to facilities or fees, but to tone: how a school balances structure with warmth, or whether its academic standards stay consistent year after year.
What follows are schools that parents mention most, not because they're perfect, but because they've earned trust through delivery rather than prospectuses.

<h2>The British School Al Khubairat (BSAK), Al Mushrif</h2>
Curriculum: British | Grades: FS1 – Year 13 | ADEK Rating: Outstanding | Annual Fees: Approx. 61,500 AED
Few institutions in Abu Dhabi command the generational loyalty of The British School Al Khubairat (BSAK). Established in 1968, its history is not just a matter of record but a living asset, evidenced by the notable staff tenure and the high number of alumni who now return to enrol their own children. That continuity matters in a city that changes as quickly as Abu Dhabi.
While the academic expectations are exacting, the pressure rarely becomes palpable. Teachers, with their years of experience, demonstrate a deep knowledge of their students, allowing them to judge precisely when to stretch ability and when to consolidate. Academic standards stay high: in 2024, 50% of all A-Level grades achieved were the top A* or A marks. What families frequently cite is the school's quiet, dependable nature, a reliable standard that secures its Outstanding ADEK rating year after year.
&nbsp;
<h2>Cranleigh Abu Dhabi, Saadiyat Island</h2>
Curriculum: British | Grades: FS1 – Year 13 | ADEK Rating: Outstanding | Annual Fees: 65,000 – 96,333 AED
Set among Saadiyat's galleries and museums, Cranleigh reflects the island's creative energy. Modelled on its Surrey counterpart, the campus brings British independent school values to Saadiyat. Investment shows everywhere, from its 50-metre pool and Olympic-level sports facilities to art studios and performance halls that resemble university spaces.
But prestige alone doesn't define it. The house system builds natural mentorship between year groups. Academic results stay strong: 52% of A-Level entries were recently awarded the top A* or A grades. Yet what parents often describe first is the atmosphere, disciplined but warm, academically ambitious without the intensity. For expatriate families, Cranleigh offers something reassuringly familiar: the feel of an English independent school, translated thoughtfully to the Gulf.
&nbsp;
<h2>American International School (AIS), Airport Road</h2>
Curriculum: American | Grades: KG – Grade 12 | ADEK Rating: Very Good | Annual Fees: 43,000 – 68,000 AED
Operating since the 1990s near Airport Road, AIS attracts families from across Abu Dhabi. The American curriculum includes Advanced Placement courses for seniors and GPA tracking from early years.
Co-curricular activities are taken seriously. Basketball teams compete regionally. Theatre productions happen multiple times yearly. Community service connects students to Abu Dhabi organisations. High staff retention provides stability. Fees sit lower than many British schools, and the nurturing environment suits families who want breadth over singular academic focus.
&nbsp;
<h2>Brighton College Abu Dhabi, Bloom Gardens</h2>
Curriculum: British | Grades: FS1 – Year 13 | ADEK Rating: Outstanding | Annual Fees: 64,175 – 105,773 AED
Brighton College delivers academic results that compete with the best British schools, with 63% of all GCSE grades recently achieving the top 9–7 range. But classrooms stay surprisingly calm. Teachers push hard without the competitive atmosphere that sometimes comes with top performance. That balance appeals to families who want academic strength without the pressure.
Debating teams compete nationally, orchestras perform regularly, and sport fills the calendar. Pastoral care works well here: form tutors know families, communication is prompt, and issues get caught early. It's that combination of strong academics and functional systems that keeps Brighton's waiting lists long.
&nbsp;
<h2>Repton School Abu Dhabi, Al Reem Island</h2>
Curriculum: British / IB | Grades: Nursery – Year 13 | ADEK Rating: Outstanding | Annual Fees: 57,178 – 102,753 AED
Repton operates across two campuses on Al Reem Island, with a deliberate separation of age groups. The Rose Campus serves Early Years within smaller, contained spaces, while the Fry Campus takes pupils from primary through sixth form, offering older students independence and specialist facilities.
The path from EYFS through IGCSEs (where the school recently achieved 77% of grades at the 9–6 level) to the IB Diploma provides one continuous education from nursery to graduation. The waterfront setting gives the school a calm, open feel, light classrooms, shaded play areas, and a view of the marina that softens the day. For globally mobile families, this single-school continuity is a real asset: same philosophy, same teachers, same community, year after year.
&nbsp;
<h2>Al Yasmina Academy, Khalifa City</h2>
Curriculum: British / IB | Grades: FS1 – Year 13 | ADEK Rating: Outstanding | Annual Fees: 43,500 – 71,000 AED
Part of the established Aldar network, Al Yasmina Academy consistently achieves an Outstanding rating, coupled with a notably moderate fee range. The school delivers the British curriculum through secondary, transitioning to the IB Diploma in sixth form.
Sport and performing arts hold equal weight here: training is structured, competitions are regular, and productions are well attended. Its reputation, however, rests on predictable reliability and demonstrable achievement: 78% of all A-Level results were recently awarded A*, A, or B.
&nbsp;
<h2>Canadian International School, Khalifa A</h2>
Curriculum: Canadian (Alberta) | Grades: KG – Grade 12 | ADEK Rating: Good | Annual Fees: 42,000 – 65,000 AED
As Abu Dhabi's only Alberta-accredited school, the Canadian International School centres on discussion. Lessons are led by students voicing ideas and questioning assumptions early on. French begins in primary years and continues through graduation, while technology is integrated across subjects.
The Canadian model emphasises collaboration over competition, which suits children less comfortable with hierarchical British systems. Classes remain small, teachers approachable, and the community tight-knit. Graduates leave with internationally recognised diplomas, but most parents mention something simpler: how well the school knows its children.
&nbsp;
<h2>The Measure of True Value</h2>
Curriculum is a fundamental consideration, alongside location and fees. Yet the schools that prove most successful rarely win on paper alone. They are the institutions where teachers stay long enough to truly understand a student's journey, where pastoral care extends beyond policy, and where culture aligns naturally with how a child learns.
&nbsp;
The right school isn't defined by the newest facilities or the highest rating. It's the one where your child feels known and grows with confidence for however long you call Abu Dhabi home.
